I've played for years with just a small orange amp, still a novice. The Double Muff, my first effects pedal, is incredible for the money and is solidly built. It adds amazing depth to your playing with an endless variation of fuzz/distort/sustain. Be careful with the volumes because it can be LOUD, REALLY LOUD. Its really opened up the use of the tone controls on the guitar for me too seem's to have given me more control on the sound. I absolutely love it.

I needed a fuzz-type pedal, ie. capable of producing a fuzz sound, but not one that gets lost in the mix, which some tend to do. Also it neede to be small to fit on my board and a reasonable price.
This pedal fits those criterias and actually has 2 sounds - a reasonable overdrive and and then the doubled up sound which is blimmin' loud! Care needs to be taken to tame it as it's easy to sink into squalling feedback!
Looks well made and good value so it's a keeper.

Frequency independent boost through overdrive 16 Mar. 2014
By Sean Zarn - Published on Amazon.com

I've been using this pedal for bass guitar distortion. If you want to try one versatile pedal, this one gives you a lot for your money. This will sound good with your six-string or your bass guitar. I'm guessing it will give you the desired effect for any electric music signal.

The single mode is awesome because the second control knob is used as an output volume control, making it easy to set your clean and distorted volumes. Having the two distortion modes gives you the sensitivity to dial in exactly how much overdrive you want, from just a hint of boost to burn-this-mother-down fuzz.

Sturdy case and components. Good tactile feel on both knobs and both switches. Small package. Takes 9v battery. I've probably put 6-10 hours on one 9v so far. With my equipment and unshielded cables, this is not a noisey pedal.

Bassists: try this pedal for Breed - NIrvana and Hysteria - Muse.
Guitarists: simplify your needs in boosts and overdrives.

I think you'll be happy you got it.

I really love this pedal, it's built solid and I expect it to last a long time. The sound is amazing. Another friend of mine has a Big Muff and he likes this way better. Buy this pedal and play some black keys songs today!
Cheap, TWICE the Big Muff in one small-footprint pedal 29 May 2014
By Bret Hart - Published on Amazon.com

Generates too much noise, wherever I put it in the signal chain.

BUT, I want the classic E-H grit, so I have it in position 1, which attenuates most of what I don't want to hear after passing through the rest of The Labyrinth [pitch-shifter/analog echo/phase shifter/comp-lim/QTron/digital delay/digital reverb].

NOTE: moving the switch to the right engages a SECOND Big Muff circuit---EDGY, man, and very much added gain.

SO, if E-H wants to take the Double MUFF to the next level, I suggest better shielding. For the price I paid, this is a 4-star pedal and a real value.
Excellent distortion/fuzz box 10 Mar. 2015

Excellent distortion/fuzz box. The controls are relatively simple and it's easy to dial in the sound you want. Adequate for many styles of music, ranging from rock, blues, punk, and you can easily achieve some Sabbath riffs with the Double Muff mode. In Single mode, it emits a mild but cool torn speaker effect.
