4.0 out of 5 stars short but insightful 11 Feb. 2014

After reading zen jiujitsu, I thought I'd give this one a go. The book is not very long, but manages to condense lots of important information to get you to you're goals.. For the price, I definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but useful 28 Jan. 2014

A short but useful read. It's good to have some understanding fo what to expect as an older jiujiteiro starting out and particularly about how to avoid injuries and how to recover properly.

There is nothing new in this work or different. But I suppose it's worthwhile for those just starting on the frustrating / rewarding BjJ journey. Purple or above leave alone

2.0 out of 5 stars A good effort, but just not very useful 2 Oct. 2013

Pretty bad. The good advice tended to be common sense or basic sports medicine. A few anecdotes mixed in. They were occasionally interesting, but mostly filler. I've read worse, but also have read much better. As an over 40 martial artist, I got surprisingly little out of reading this.

2.0 out of 5 stars over 40% original material but not much. 23 Mar. 2014

This book is unnecessary if you have read the previous two volumes. Repeats a lot of information from those books and includes actual extracts. I found the injury treatment section very basic and based more on personal experiences than science. For me this was the weakest of the three I've read. Two stars if you've read his 30 day and blue belt books, about three stars if you haven't.

I would love to see more

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice read for new students in their 40's 23 Aug. 2013

His book is simple and straight forward. If you are an older student with under six months of training it is well worth the reading time.

A lot of what is in this book seems like common sense to me, but I've been around Combative Sports and Martial Arts my whole life. This is an excellent book for the true "late" beginner. I will say that I enjoyed the section about plateauing the most; it happens to all of us. Having a plan is a must. Drilling one move for at least one hour everyday for 30 days is a solid idea as well.
