Book Description

Silver Dragon is book 3 in the Blades of Leander trilogy

Alto's hands are stained with the blood of the fallen. The only justice he can find must be had by the blade, but the path of vengeance shows him that he is but a pawn in a far more dangerous game. Sarya's plans reach far beyond anything the young warrior could imagine and require a sacrifice from him greater than he can give.

Alto must make fear his ally if he is to lead his companions into the dragon's lair with any hope of saving the woman he loves and the two nations he calls home.

More About the Author

Short version: Jason Halstead is a science fiction and fantasy author who spends his free time with his wife and two children, writing, and powerlifting.

Long version: Jason's always wanted to write, but making a living at it seemed unobtainable. So instead of writing fiction, he turned to writing code. That paid the rent and let him dabble in fiction.

The common theme shared by almost every great writer is perseverance. Refusing to accept denial by traditional publishing and agents, Jason was finally accepted at a publisher that was harnessing the cresting wave of ebooks. That ride, although bumpy, gave him the experience and knowledge necessary to strike out and improve his craft.

Jason now has multiple books out and regularly helps out other budding authors struggling to makes sense of the industry. He's a stickler on editing and professionalism, but also believes wholeheartedly that his readers aren't just customers, they're his friends. He wants to know them and encourages them to visit his website (, his blog (, and even more to email him ( so he can interact with them. His books come from his imagination and from his heart, and more than one of his friends has inspired him and shown up for at least a cameo appearance in one of his titles.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good story but spoiled by poor editing 16 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed the Blades of Leander series and would have given it 4 stars but it was spoiled by the poor editing.
It was difficult to follow the dialogue as the character names were swapping and changing at random. There's no Table of contents and it looks like someone had tried to proof read it and left lots of comments surrounded by {} throughout the book.
An example "Now the giants had gotten involved. Rocks the size of {OF WHAT } hurled from catapults...".
This happens far too frequently for what should be a finished book. If it was free I wouldn't mind so much but it's unacceptable for a paid for book.

Apart from that, the characters are likeable and there's a bit of humour which always helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for fantasy-lovers 7 April 2013
By Thalia
Format:Kindle Edition
I somehow missed that `Silver Dragon' was book three in the `Blades of Leander' series upon initially purchasing the kindle copy, but that didn't detract at all from the novel, as it's a fine, stand-alone story in its own right. However, now that I've read and fully enjoyed this one, I'm keen to go back and read the first and second instalments, `Child of Fate' and `Victim of Fate' (available separately or as a kindle trilogy box set) and equally keen to read any further instalments to the series from author Jason Halstead.

In Silver Dragon, we're introduced to Alto and his sister Caitlyn, who have recently lost their family at the cruel hands of dark enemies. Hence, the two are no longer safe, and here the story starts with Alto hoping to secure his sister's safety while he rights the wrongs that were painfully inflicted on his loved ones.

I particularly liked the way the characters were built throughout the story, and I felt myself becoming quite attached to them, especially to Alto and Lady Patrina who, naturally, I was rooting for. For me, fine character development is particularly important when building a series around a continuing theme, so well done Halstead!

I couldn't help but draw some resemblances between the novel and the award-winning `Game of Thrones' series, what with the fantasy elements and, moreover, Alto's fight to protect his kingdom, his `Lady' and his beloved sister. Silver Dragon, however, with a charm all of its own, is definitely unique in its own right, though I mention this as it's most certainly due to appeal to a similar demographic of fans in the fantasy if you're constantly awaiting the next instalment of GoT (like me) immerse yourself in the Leander series in the meantime...and see time fly!

4.0 out of 5 stars Silver Dragon (Blades of Leander) 27 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This has to be the best of Jason's heroic fantasies. Silver Dragon (Blades of Leander)
He has a brilliant imagination, I'd hate to get on his wrong side.
His characterisation is much improved, his main characters are far more rounded and believable.
His continuity is very good, a hard to put down read.
Oh and beware of his puns, they are deadly.
All together a very good read.

Jason has the much desired ability to interlace the action, wars, duels, and excitement into the story without destroying the storyline. His characters are real and fit within the pages and chapters smoothly without disrupting your train of thought.

4.0 out of 5 stars Imminently suitable for science fiction fans 13 April 2013

Book three in the series Blades of Leander, these books seem to get better and better.

A couple of days ago I read Vitalis Omnibus from James Halstead. I enjoyed that book so much that when I noticed the author had released other books, I couldn't One-Click fast enough to try some of his other novels. And again, ending up staying up several nights reading them.

A great mix of science fiction, mystery, fantasy and philosophy. This time the book focuses on vengeance through the character of Alto, but as in his other books, this is more a sub-plot to the overriding message and theme of the book.

Written for adults, I can imagine this being a very popular book for young adults/ teenagers as well. Imminently suitable for science fiction fans, Blades of Leander is a highly recommendable series that has at least impressed this aging reader. I look forward to reading more. Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story; The third one is the best yet 10 April 2013

The series Blades of Leander is the ultimate in sci-fi fantasy. I have read the first two books in the series, namely "Child of Fate" and "Victim of Fate", and loved them all.The main character is Alto, a child with a good heart but destined for a harsh fate. The first two books ended with the loss of Alto's loved ones in the fight against evil. The third book,Silver Dragon, continues the story with Alto seeking revenge. I was impatiently waiting for the third story and finally got hold of it by downloading it to my Kindle. This is an impressive, at times breathtaking, story of adventure that captures the reader's imagination. Once again Jason Halstead provides the reader an extraordinary adventure!
I recommend the book to every fantasy fan. If you have read the first two books , then you know you need to go for the third one. And if you haven't read the series yet, what are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Riveting Fantasy Saga 6 April 2013
By Alexander - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Silver Dragon is book three in the series called Blades of Leander, and probably my favourite one. It's difficult to judge whether this is because I have grown to like the series so much from reading the first two, but The Silver Dragon has a strong merit of its own.

For this reason, it is highly recommended to anyone that is interested in sci-fi fantasy adventures with wonderful characters and amazing creatures.

As with his other books, the author draws you into the story with intriguing characters and alluring graphic descriptions of the surroundings and events. Many parts of the book are so well described that they become very vivid in your mind, transporting you this mythical world.

Regardless of whether you have read the previous 2 novels in the series, the book is an excellent read and I highly recommend it.
