5.0 out of 5 stars Demons zapped by Maisel magic 20 Dec. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A pocket-sized book that packs a powerhouse of inspiration, thought-provoking and simply beautiful writing. I was drawn to the title by personal gremlins engaged in a Star Wars battle with my writing mojo. Eric Maisel is an American writer/guru and so often I find just cannot relate the American experience to my own, but he transcends this. His words speak to you whoever you are, whatever your stumbling blocks, and can be used on many different level, from just seeking inspiration or empathy, to tackling the many exercises and suggestions to challenge oneself (and those demons). Thoroughly recommended.

I loved this book! Eric Maisel really gets to the heart of what a writer's environment should ideally be like. Whether you're an amateur or a professional writer, it's worth the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Writers space--inspriational 30 Dec. 2009
By K. Ann Seeton - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am finding this book to be quite inspirational. I like the practical advice, the pattern of exercises, and the attitude of the book. It all works together to support the ambition of writing if the reader actually puts it into practice. It helped me find space in my life for writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Optimizing one's time with the pen or keyboard, and creating both an office and ritual 12 July 2008
By Midwest Book Review - Published on
Writing is an art form, and all artists need a place to brainstorm and ponder their ideas - both mentally and physically. "A Writer's Space: Make a Room to Dream, to Work, to Write" recognizes this fact and gives advice for writers on how to create this space. Finding one's inner muse, optimizing one's time with the pen or keyboard, and creating both an office and ritual are all topics covered in this fine guide for any artist, whether with literary goals or not. "A Writer's Space: Make a Room to Dream, to Work, to Write" is highly recommended for community library writing and publishing collections.

I was disappointed at the small size of the book when it arrived but I am on a mission to become a published author and I am reading anything of possible use. Well it is by far the best rah rah book and practical advisor of the 24 books I have already read. I am so thankful for this purchase . It inspires me and gives the best advice in a gentle way. No other book covers the range of advice as this book doesA Writer's Space: Make Room to Dream, to Work, to Write

5.0 out of 5 stars Write on Time 22 Aug. 2010
By SadieJ - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This small treasure is wonderful. I have been writing for many, many years, attended workshops, purchased all sorts of material for the writer yet there was never anything so potent. The book addressed everything to get a writer moving and gives a true assessment of what is going on with writers when working or attempting to embark on a writer's path. A must have. There is no need to purchase another book to get a wanna be writer going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Claim the Physical, Mental, and Emotional Space You Need to Write 6 April 2010
By Christina Katz, author of The Writer's Workout, Get Known Before the Book Deal, & Writer Mama - Published on
Similar in pacing to my books Writer Mama and Get Known, A Writer's Space is written in short, easy-to-absorb chapters that make it easier to squeeze into a busy schedule like mine.

Since we've recently moved into a new home, I was primed for a discussion of how a writer carves out a room of his or her own. But I was delighted to discover that this book covers the deeper implications of the topic of space, and not merely the challenges of arranging our physical world.

Of course it does, since A Writer's Space is written by counselor, therapist, and coach Eric Maisel, whose other incredibly helpful books include A Life in the Arts and Toxic Criticism.

I think when Eric Maisel writes on these kinds of topics, where he has clearly established a wealth of expertise based on many years of experience and study, he writes at his best. Like a true master, he is able to offer readers many thoughtful take-aways without ever seeming condescending or belying how many times he must have covered this same territory without becoming weary of it. In fact, many chapters on what might otherwise be dry topics are playfully literary in the hands of such a skillful writer in his own right.

If you have not had a chance to pick up, A Writer's Space by Eric Maisel, PH.D., I highly recommend it, especially for the writer who is having difficulty establishing enough "space" to get his or her writing done in a way that is satisfying and fulfilling.
