Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

eMedia Guitar Method, Vol. 1 features 150 comprehensive lessons covering everything from the basics through strumming chords, playing melodies, and fingerpicking. It includes more than 30 videos and three hours of audio from guitar instructor Kevin Garry. Learning guitar is made fun through familiar hit songs by artists like Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, and Steve Miller. This new version includes additional lessons, including chapters on instrument care, chord progressions, and blues songs.

eMedia Guitar Method, Vol. 1 also features an animated fretboard, which displays the fingering for each song and exercise in real time and is adjustable to four separate viewing angles. Multitrack audio gives full band accompaniment on many of the hit songs. New to this version is a multispeed MIDI track option that allows students to practice any song or exercise at whatever tempo they want. The software also offers the option to learn using either tablature or standard music notation. Additional features include a built-in automatic tuner, digital metronome, recorder, and 250-chord dictionary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 30 Mar 2004
By Belinda "belindabell" (Nottingham, UK) - See all my reviews
This is THE tool to get over the inital frustration of learning to play guitar.

I have tried books, and on-line resources after picking up the guitar for the first time and none did it for me until i came across this software. There were two and only two things that got me to keep playing the guitar instead of chucking it away from frustration. This software was the most important one (and the other was enrolling in a guitar class).

The software starts from how to hold the guitar/the pick, how to pluck a string etc and then teaches you basic 2-chord songs that you can play along with the program. There are tips in the form of video clips as you go along also. It shows clearly how to press the chords and which fingers to use for which frets etc, and keeps showing you as you play along. You can also set the speed with which you play by chosing the midi option of playback. There is a metronome feature included also.

By the end of the first month, some of the tunes you will be playing will be green sleeves, house of the rising sun, scarborough fair, la bamba etc.

The different chapters are:
Simple chords, adding accents to your strums, slash chords, rock strumming and poewer strumming, playing the blues, reading tablature, bass-note strum, fingerpicking/arpeggio

Well worth the money

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for beginners!, 26 Nov 2003
I got my guitar for christmas last year ('02) and have been fumbling about with it ever since. I considered getting lessons but didn't have the time or the money. Then one day I came across emedia's Guitar Method and have never looked back.

Its packed with features, like the massive chord dictionary that not only shows you the chord it shows you where each finger should be placed and what it should sound like. The lessons are broken down in to easy segments and most of them come with mpeg clips that demonstrate what it is you're trying to achieve. You can skip to certain lessons, techniques or songs and it even comes with a tuner that works through the mic of the computer and a record facility so you can hear how good or bad you are!

I could go on all day about this product, if you own a guitar and don't want the expense of lessons then buy this. You won't regret it and you may even learn how to play a song!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for budding guitarists, 30 Mar 2004
By Belinda "belindabell" (Nottingham, UK) - See all my reviews
This program offers a very comprehensive approach to learning guitar. A typical lesson includes a close up video of a guitar skill followed by a song or two to practice. The progression is very logical and easy to follow. As the songs get more challenging, there are some great features like the ability to slow the song down or loop sections of the song.

I have looked at other software, such as Charranga and I must say that it is no where near as comprehesive and the lesson content and song content do not touch eMedia. The additional featurea in eMedia's software, such as the Automatic Tuner, Animated Fretboard, Recorder, Chord Dictionary and Scale Directory are invaluable.

I would definitely recommend eMedia to anyone looking to learn Guitar.

2.0 out of 5 stars Far too simple and not enough content
This guitar course is far too simple - even for beginners. Even By the end of the course you will still only have picked up the most basic of skills. Read more
