Namaste, Yoga for the Inflexibles: Beginners and Beyond was created to counter the common misconception that you have to be flexible to practice Yoga. Physical flexibility is a by-product of Yoga, and your age, size, or stiffness are no barriers to you beginning a fruitful practice. This DVD is designed to show you that Yoga is about your relationship with yourself, and how to improve it. Ultimately, this Yoga programme is about feeling good. In this programme you will learn how to: Deeply Relax Develop a relationship with your breath Release toxins from all your vital organs and body systems to feel cleansed and revived Enhance the production of endorphins ( happy vibes ) Tone and lengthen muscles Open your joints Start to develop a relationship with your spine Achieve a number of classical yoga postures Massage and stimulate your digestive system Release stress and anxiety Feel a balance and harmony between mind, body and spirit Experience a workout as a warm, sensuous and fluid personal experience. As opposed to rigid, empty exercise for merely cosmetic benefits This DVD includes: warm up, main practice; cool down; short relax; Yoga Nidra deep relaxation; several posture explanations Props recommended: Yoga sticky mat (non-sports branded ideally) i.e. one from a yoga mat specialist; regular cushion or yoga block; long scarf or yoga strap; chair or stool (optional), blanket (optional) Jamie is an Omega Institute certified teacher, having completed her teacher training at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica in 2003. She has worked and written for Yoga Magazine, and is currently based in London where she was one of Timeout s leading personal trainers in 2010. Jamie s philosophy is of a Yoga for feeling good, as opposed to finding new ways to contort yourself into a pretzel. www.yogaatyours.co.uk Enjoy

As much as I enjoy pilates and meditation and keeping fit, for the longest time I have put off trying Yoga. Tempted but unsure whether I'd be able to actually do it. I've always found it intimidating when I think of the painful shapes people twist themselves into.

This programme seems aimed squarely at me, with the presenter pleasingly introducing me to the world of yoga in a gentle and controlled way. The exercises in this DVD do range slightly in difficulty but the thing that stands out is that I can take this at my own pace. Jamie tells me how far to push myself and it is my own body which indicates when I need to stop. With practice I will become more flexible as a by product - I can already perform the majority of the exercises a lot better than when I started.

Overall, this entire programme has provided me with what feels like a thorough routine and most impressive to me, has encouraged considerable improvements in a relatively short time. I am looking forward to continuing my Yoga education!

This is a refreshingly different Yoga DVD I think. It strips away all the aspects that can make Yoga seem a bit boring and serious and only for those who are already reasonably flexible. This provides not only a starting point for everyone but is also a very worthwhile DVD for those already practising. The presenter Jamie Heseltine ensures everything is explained and demonstrated clearly and simply. She seems to uphold all that is important about Yoga and its traditions whilst also demystifying it, which I suspect many of us will be grateful for.

I bought this DVD because I needed a gentle beginner's start to Yoga following a couple of back operations. Jamie is very pleasant and thorough. Her voice is firm and smooth with a British accent, not grating at all. I was astonished that I could actually work through most of the poses - not quite as flexible as I'd like but I'll definitely get there by using this DVD.

I think this is a reasonably good DVD, tho I would rate it more for flexibles than inflexibles, and not for complete beginners! Jamie herself is v flexible, and doesn't spend much time giving alternative poses for those of us stiffer mortals, which is a great shame as that's what the title suggests...

Also, it's broken into lots of separate modules, which is helpful, but I would have appreciated a section at the end which encompassed a continuous mangeable workout for, say, three-quarters of an hour, to save having to mix-and-match from the whole tape, which makes for a disruptive session.

Overall a bit disappointing for me.

The programme set out here seems very good to me, a beginner with some old injuries to take care of. It is gentle and takes into account the likely difficulties for people like me.

The DVD is not perfect though. I have two criticisms of the production:

The introduction has Jamie Heseltine sitting on a beach close to the sea. She is trying to do a relaxing, reassuring introduction live to camera. She doesn't seem too comfortable with this - there are a couple of fluffs, with an "Oh hell" expression flitting across her face. But the real problem is that she has to make so much effort to be heard. She has a penetrating voice anyway and has to raise it to be heard above the sea. No wonder she isn't comfortable, and I wasn't either. They should have moved her further away from the sea, or close miked her.

The second thing is that the DVD doesn't give you flexible access to the programme. Chapters are "warm up", "main programme", "cool down" and "relaxation" - a total of about 1.5 hours if you do the lot. This is long for a beginner doing it alone, though I imagine normal for a class. I am sure it is carefully designed to cover everything that ideally needs to be covered, but shorter ways in for lone people might be useful. There is also at one point a list of postures to avoid if you have particular health problems. You have to pause the DVD and learn it or write it down. There is no easy way back to it. You also have to just watch out for the postures when they turn up, then interrupt the flow to fast forward through them, trying to catch the end of the posture, or else just sit it out. With modern DVD technology it would be possible to set up programmes leaving out the different banned postures for people with specific health problems.

I was disappointed in this DVD. Way too strenuous for someone who is either a beginner or inflexible. I recall only one instance of a supporting photo of someone inflexible demonstrating a pose from a chair. This DVD is suitable for flexible, physically fit beginners.

This is definitely not a Yoga DVD for people with any degree of difficulty with their flexibility - few alternative poses illustrated. In truth the title is really very misleading. Even those familiar with yoga practice might find it difficult to watch/use this DVD as the presentation has an agitated and tense quality throughout that is disconcerting.

Fantastic DVD, good for both beginners and those who are more practised at yoga. Jamie explains the poses thoroughly and you work at your own level. With regular use flexibility will arrive! Excellent deep relaxation section at the end, great for just before bed to help deep sleeping. The DVD runs from warm up through to deep relaxation without any breaks making it quite long, so a good hour and a half is needed to complete the whole set however you can stop at any time and fast forward to the cool down or deep relaxation section. Would definitely buy another of her DVD's.
