Yoga for Depression and Anxiety with Ira Israel is a unique wellness and fitness DVD that contains a 75 minute all-level vinyasa flow yoga class specifically designed to cultivate peace of mind. The DVD also contains a discussion of how our minds function and how yoga helps treat depression and anxiety. Ira Israel is a Psychotherapist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Certified Yoga Therapist, and Registered Yoga Teacher E-RYT500. He has Master of Arts degrees in Psychology, Buddhism and Hinduism, and Philosophy. Yoga expert Seane Corn tells us: Through Ira's intelligent and contemporary voice, he is uniquely able to communicate traditional mind/body practices, making yogic philosophies and modern day psychology a natural blend that is necessary for Self-awareness and transcendence to occur. He understands that healing is not possible without awareness and as a yogi and therapist is skilled at guiding his students and clients to richly explore the depths of their inner lives and relationship to Mystery while also staying firmly rooted in the here and now. I recommend Ira's work. He is a relatable and caring presence whose skill comes from self-experience as well as education.

I had the chance to meet Ira when in Los Angeles and try his method. A truly life changing experience.
The DVD is just as great, and Ira has that unique voice that resonates and allows you to reach new levels of focus.
A must have

AWESOME AND INSPIRING WORKOUT 10 Sept. 2010
By Jessica E. Venters - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
I suffer from mild anxiety and wanted to try a natural way of coping with it. After seeing all the great reviews on this DVD, I had to try it-- and I am so glad I did! First off, it is a great workout. Second, it really does help me relax. At the end of the DVD Ira says something about how if you just concentrated solely on your breathing and nothing else for even one breath, then it did its job in ceasing your anxiety. It's really taught me how to take 75 minutes out of my day and instead of constantly thinking and worrying, just concentrate on my breathing. It can be done!-- you can realize how it feels to think more clearly! I'm not in the best of shape in order to do yoga, so unfortunately, I can't achieve all of the poses yet, but it's my goal to do so and I'm hoping it just gets better in time!

Has inspired me to start practicing again 6 July 2010
By RuthAnn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
I used to practice yoga several times a week but started finding the classes in my area over populated and competitive. In my opinion that is not what yoga should be like. I actually found myself feeling frustrated and annoyed during a crowded class. I have never suffered severe depression but like many people I go through times of mild depression and anxiety, not hard to do in times of economic turbulence. This DVD was given to me a couple of weeks ago and it has brought me back to practice. The narrative at the beginning makes so much sense and speaks to what I believe when it comes to working on and through depression. Thanks to this DVD, and the friend that gave it to me, I no longer have to suffer in a crowded classroom that feels more like a competitive sport rather than a spiritual path to health and vitality. I recommend giving it to yourself and your friends as a gift!

Masterful! 1 Oct. 2010
By Rachel - Published on Amazon.com

Having tried over the years to start a yoga practice at home, I never thought that I would "get into" another yoga video. But, this one is a surprise. I greatly enjoyed the "real world" introductory session in which Ira challenges listeners to question their individual states of being; he seems genuinely interested in helping folks find a change in perspective, which, in my view, truly begins any journey towards healing. The choice of a waterside nature setting, both before and after the actual teaching, was especially calming to my spirit. The studio setting was a pleasant space, except for the unnecessary placement of some background equipment which distracted me at times from the student's MOST graceful and perfected, uh, form (I am sure that some appropriate Sanskrit word would apply). What an inspiration I found her to be! Her precision in practice was easily matched by Ira's masterful command of the instruction. After the first viewing, I had the sense that his teaching style was so far above any typical yoga class endured "at the gym." Ira's delivery evidences the committed effort of a devoted and studied practitioner of an ancient tradition. And, other than wanting the camera to move at times toward the steady voice of the teacher, I was pleased with the editing between and among the various spaces presented. Overall, I feel that this is a very personal offering by a serious professional intending to benefit any potential viewers.

Exciting and insighteful yoga instruction. 1 July 2010
By Jerry Karr - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Ira Israel's new DVD "Yoga for Depressioin and Anxiety" is one of the best, if not the best, yoga dvds I've yet come across. I've been practicing for over 17 years now and have a stack of dvds that reaches from the floor to my shoulders but I've never ecnountered an instructor with such insight and basic knowledge as Mr. Israel has. It was a pleasure to use his dvd this morning and I'm sure I'll be feeling the same for many more mornings to come.

Love it! 17 Feb. 2011

I am an experienced yogi and have been practicing for the last twenty years. This video is one of the best I have ever done to date. He makes it super easy to follow and you can really be any level and adjust poses. The music is super calming. The best thing I found is he really gets you to work on breathing which is the most important part of yoga. Love it!!
