Book Description

The Lord of the Night is coming. The future of civilization is at stake.

Miro is in the Imperial capital to prepare the Empire for the onslaught. He knows his homeland lies directly in the enemy's path but struggles to form the alliances he needs.

As the high lords bicker, Ella seeks Killian's help. But, amid the growing tensions, their responsibilities drive them apart, as Killian can't be seen to favor Ella's homeland.

Against a backdrop of old hurts, guilty secrets, and shaky new allegiances, people of all nations and abilities must learn to trust one another again, and form a united front against a powerful enemy intent on destroying them once and for all.

This is the fourth book in the epic Evermen Saga.

    About the Author

James Maxwell found inspiration growing up in the lush forests of New Zealand and later in rugged Australia where he was educated. Devouring fantasy and science fiction classics at an early age, his love for books translated to a passion for writing, which he began at age eleven.

He relocated to London at age twenty-five but continued to seek inspiration wherever he could find it, in the grand cities of the old world and the monuments of fallen empires. His travels influenced his writing as he spent varying amounts of time in forty countries on six continents.

He wrote his first full-length novel, Enchantress, while living on an isle in Thailand and its sequel, The Hidden Relic, from a coastal town on the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.

The third book in the Evermen Saga, The Path of the Storm, was written in the Austrian Alps, and he completed the fourth, The Touch of Fire, in Malta.

When he isn't writing or traveling, James enjoys sailing, snowboarding, classical guitar, and French cooking.

Just finished reading, with immense satisfaction! In-between work and children, I have read non-stop since it was released 3 days ago. Exactly what the end of a series should be like. Action, intrigue, politics... and full of unexpected twists and turns. The characters are fantastic and I like the way they have grown throughout the series.

It's also great the way James Maxwell stays with a story thread until its natural conclusion, rather then changing chapters and characters midway through like in GoT.

If you have read the other books, this is a fantastic ending to the series.

Could we have more spin-offs like the "Seven Words of Power"? Or a prequel like when the Evermen were first banished from the world? It's shame to leave this world behind after it's become so well established in the readers minds!

4.0 out of 5 stars and the fun of the magic system 27 Dec. 2014
    By Anton
    Format:Kindle Edition
I find myself in an odd place with this series. I'm an avid reader of the likes of Steven Erikson, Robert Jordan and Robin Hobbs - to name but a few. They spin tales of greater political intrigue, mystery and intelligence in comparison to James Maxwell, and yet, I literally couldn't stop reading. I finished the four books (five If you include the novella) within two weeks. That speaks of their simplicity, but mostly of the addictive nature of the story, the likeableness of the charachters, and the fun of the magic system. I'll say honestly that you can do a damn site better than this series, but that it's also thoroughly enjoyable - and was a nice break from some of the darker, more challenging literature offered by other fantasy writers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing!!! A must for fantasy lovers. 29 Aug. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What can I say? This series has made me laugh, shout and cry. Absolutely amazing and I'm incredibly sad that it is over.
I read all four books in the space of two weeks and could not put it down.
I won't give any details as half the fun is discovering and falling in love with Ella, Miro, Amber, Killian, Rogan, Jehral , Evrin amongst others by yourself. It was incredibly well written and the battle scenes were nothing short than breath taking.
Cannot wait to see what James Maxwell comes up with next.
Thoroughly recommended for any fantasy lover!!!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book & Saga 20 Sept. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have just finished this final book of The Evermen Saga & I was in a lucky position to be able to read them back to back. The story line, while being true fantasy, could in many places, been true to life. The author is quite brilliant at developing characters and their relationships. In fact I shed a tear a few times during the saga but I also felt very uplifted at other times. While the story was split in places to allow the author to follow different characters and their section of the story; he did so very smoothly. And while I have seen other authors split this in order to have more books published, this was, to me just perfect

I could not recommend this saga highly enough. The story is great, the characters are terrific and the worst thing I can say about it is, it'll leave you wanting more. Buy it!!

    4.0 out of 5 stars A fine conclusion 27 Dec. 2014
    By jennio
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In many ways this could be seen as the best of the 4 books. The first shows the author as having creative flair but this one shows his strongest suit. In my opinion he is at his best describing epic battles and keeping readers hanging on the edge of their seats.

I have really joyed this series of books. Yes some of the dialogue is occasionally awkward and there are some odd plot holes and times where the author needs to go somewhere and slashes too quickly through a developing scene. He also is evidently a bit of a foody and would have cheerfully incorporated master chef in here if he could !

But .. This was a cracking tale in a magical world, populated by interesting and heartwarming characters along with some thoroughly bad baddies ..

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great reading - all four books
Took a long week end to read all four books. Just the kind of fantasy I can get immersed in and really regret that there was not a further book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good if a little predictable.
The main characters are all likeable & the plot bounces along travelling far and wide, though you can guess the ending and who will survive . All in all I enjoyed the series.
