I was so excited leading up to this release. For me Matt Barlow is one of the all time greatest metal singers and he will always for me (and many others) be the true voice of Iced Earth. The fact that he clubs together with Freddie Vidales for this album made me genuinely keen to find out what they could create without the dominating influence of Jon Schaffer.

Sadly, for me it isn't anything to write home about. Barlow is in fine voice as always and there's no denying that the musicianship from Vidales and Williams is top notch. However, I struggle to recall a single memorable riff, melody or vocal line from the first 7 tracks. Each of the opening songs feels trudgy, repetitive and I hate to say it, boring. Even Barlow's incredible vocal range can't rescue the dull rhythms and unimaginative melodies. Things do pick up with The Answer, which is simple in structure but it actually contains the album's first interesting melody and showcases Barlow's highly emotional vocals at their best. The last couple of tracks, What I Am and The One Eyed King have a little bit more about them and show encouraging signs of what they could possibly achieve if they were to make a follow up, but overall I have to say their debut is a disappointment. It's by no means terrible but it seems to me they lack the creative influence of Schaffer.

As a big fan of Matt Barlow from his time with Iced Earth I was excited to hear that he had formed a new band! The album boasts some killer riffs and excellent drumming but for me the stand out is Matt's vocals.

Great lyrics and writing with the tracking listing being quite varied with heavy aggression to slow gentle melodic. This is no simple Iced Earth clone either, the three guys here have come up with their own sound which is reminiscent of their past work but with loads of new elements which keep the sound fresh. I highly recommend this to fans of Iced Earth and Nevermore but anyone after a fresh up and coming band from three guys who have loads more to give to the world of Metal. Can't wait for album number 2!

My favourite tracks in no particular order:
Dead Man's Plight
The Answer
Move The Chains
On Warriors Wings
This Is My Hell

These guys now exactly how to create a great metal album with all the bits and pieces one loves.

Magnificent drumming, great melodic guitars and speed tempos and what can one say about the vocals? It's Matt so they're perfect.

A must buy.
