Two dead SSDs in one year 7 Aug. 2013
By Maciek - Published on Amazon.com
I replaced my original SSD as I needed higher capacity drive than Apple was offering at the time. The first one died 10 months after the purchase. I received a replacement which just died as well (after 9 months; another replacement on the way). Unreliable, yet pricey product, which did cost me a lot of stress and lost data. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 only for three years warranty and quick replacement by OWC.

Expensive, and don't expect much from customer service. 6 Dec. 2013
By Solarbuddy - Published on Amazon.com
I had my brand-new MacBook Air upgraded with one of these at a small Mac shop in Hollywood soon after my wife bought it for my birthday in November 2011. Within a few months I had periodic freezes (the interminable spinning pinwheel) but a hard power reset would often result in a bootable system. I took it back to the shop where the finger-pointing between Apple and Aura began. The shop reinstalled the original Apple SSD and it worked for months. After a few months I reinstalled the OWC Aura 480GB and it worked great for a few weeks. Again, more freezing, and this time on a trip to Asia. Fortunately I had a bootable copy of Unbuntu on a thumb drive that got me through that trip.

This fall I decided to figure out once and for all which was at fault--the Aura or the MacBook. I swapped the drives every week for 5 weeks. The Apple SSD worked perfectly. The OWC would freeze every other day, and several times refused to boot until the frozen Mac was totally run down. Then, after a charge, it would magically reboot--sometimes.

Since August I have been in touch with Joe at OWC/Aura tech support. At first he assured me that warranty replacement wouldn't be a problem based on date of manufacture but then the story changed. I've been trying for weeks to get a RMA but nobody even answers my emails.

It's time to cut my losses and get used to the slower, smaller, but reliable Apple SSD.

I was super excited to get the instant performance increase out of this drive. It lasted almost two months before goons kuput and deleting all my files. Reading other reviews it sounds like I'm unlikely to get a refund. So I'm out all this money. No way in heck would I install another of these drives.

Easy to install. Instant performance increase. 6 Jan. 2014

This product was very easy to install in my MBA and gave me an instant, notable, performance increase.

While technically the drive should have reduced my battery life due to the increased power draw, I have experienced about a 25% increase as added space reduces the amount of work the compy does for disk swapping and optimization.

Get this drive.
