2.0 out of 5 stars Great magazine, terrible app 7 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase
I got this for my Kindle HD 7" as I have a physical subscription and the digital issues are included in the price. I gave up using it months ago. Don't get me wrong, the Wired digital edition is fantastic - well laid out, lots of interactive bits and bobs to play with, and I would love to read it. Okay, so back issues before your subscription aren't included (though can be purchased at £2.99) and the adverts are annoyingly in your face, but Wired have to make their money somehow. My only real issue is the size - each issue weighs in at 300Mb, requiring lengthly downloads and remembering to delete issues before your memory fills up.

The main problem is the app itself, together with the distribution of the digital issue. Maybe it's just me, but I only ever seem to get access to the digital copy the month after it becomes available (i.e. I'll get access to January's issue only days before February's is released), by which time I've had the paper copy for weeks. The app itself is clunky and annoying to set-up (you need your subscription number, which is only included on the outer packaging of the magazine - so unless you keep magazine packaging lying around you have to wait for a paper copy to arrive before you can even finish the set-up). The app logs itself out at random, which is a small annoyance in itself except you have to be online to log back in (and even then is sometimes temperamental), since I tend to read while travelling this isn't always the case. Finally, when I came to renew my subscription suddenly all my issues from before the renewal disappeared, expecting a £2.99 to view them again, prompting several long and frustrating emails over several days to resolve.

In conclusion - the digital version of Wired is great, but numerous flaws in it's distribution (including the app) forced me to return to the paper copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good e-format 6 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase
I was already a subscriber to the print edition, so when I got my Kindle HD Fire I found this app and downloaded it. One thing I like is that the designers have taken the trouble to make the app work in electronic format. This isn't just a rehash of the print edition (although what is in the print edition is also in the app), but they've actually put some thought into how it will work in an e-format.
I'd give it 5 stars, but for the fact that unless you have already downloaded last month's edition, you have to pay for it again. Seems a bit harsh on the subscriber. If you've downloaded it to your device, you have permanent access to it until you delete it, os why not make all previous editions available?

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on the 8.9 kindle 29 Mar. 2013

Shockingly poor interface, back issues are not free to subscribers and it doesn't work on the 8.9 kindle. Not all wired UK's fault, Adobe need to fix their reader, but the recently launched German and Italian editions put this to shame.

1.0 out of 5 stars expired! 31 May 2014
Verified Purchase
This was once a great app, ideal for my kindle fire hd. It was easy to read and navigate each issue. However the recent update is a step back into the dark ages. Apps and websites are optimized for mobile and tablet devices these days but this app requires lots of pinching and swiping to try and read anything, sometimes moving on to the next or previous page of its own accord. It may be ok on larger screens if you want to take a chance but it's definitely "expired" to use wired`s own rating system

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite magazine 12 Jan. 2014
By Michael
I have subscribed to WIRED on and off for the past few years and when I am not enjoying a subscription, I find myself wondering just what I may be missing. I recently signed up yet again for a two year subscription deal and see exactly why I can not put this magazine down. From cover to cover, this magazine is full of so many interesting facts and cutting edge technology stories. I enjoy reading the articles, looking at the always interesting pictures and reading the countless factoids spread throughout each issue.

I will be mostly only reading the digital edition this time around as I find it so handy to have it portable on my iPad and being able to carry it everywhere with me. That and all the extra features combined with links to various items mentioned in the articles and videos, etc. The digital edition is the next generation of all that i enjoyed in the print version. As I will be mostly reading the digital version, I will probably give the print version to one of my family members. It makes a great gift.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every week gets better! 24 Feb. 2013

Love this magazine. This is the only magazine I'm currently subscribed to which I'd consider has actually put thought into the layout which gives a wonderful interactive experience. The content is always cutting-edge and insightful with plenty of different length articles ranging from Tech to Science and gadget guides.

All in all I don't see myself cancelling this subscription any time soon if they continue to roll out such interesting articles with attention to usability and extra content.

I only gave this app a 4/5 because there is still some improvements I feel could be made with navigation and stability.
