Product Description

Laurence Jones and his Band play a blend of the rocking blues with a groovy and catchy modern edge. Laurence is being talked about as of one of the New up and coming UK Blues Guitarists. Laurence started playing the classical guitar at the age of 8 and has gone on to achieve grade 8 distinction. In 2006 he started to play the electric guitar and was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Tony Mcphee, B.B King, Gary More and Albert Collins. He then went on to form his own Blues/Rock band playing his own material and has supported the likes of Wishbone Ash, The Groundhogs (egypt blues band), The move (Trevor Burton) and Danny Bryant's Red Eye Band.

When this album was recorded Laurence Jones was 19 years old. Now what was I doing when I was 19 ? . Censorship rules forbid me to say, but I was not recording an album to display my guitar prowess. I find it fascinating that the musical medium for real talented musicians is still rock/blues oriented. Marquise Knox is another example, who also had a record deal at an extremely young age due to his blues playing abilities ( have a listen to 'Man Child' ). The only criticism I have with 'Thunder in The Sky' is that the mixing quality is a bit tinny on occasions but you can't have everything. Laurence's influences seem to be very wide from ( maybe ) Jeff Beck ( the beginning of 'Going Down' ) to Buddy Guy and Jimmy Johnson. Incidentally 'Going Down' should not be confused with the Freddie King,Jeff Beck and Don Nix versions of 'Goin' Down' but shares the explosive enthusiasm of those recordings. A very good debut album from someone who will be getting even better, and that's for sure.

A good young guitarist ... but one amongst so many; when he finds his own style (at present he is Stevie Ray/ Joanne Shaw-T), we will see.

Thunder in the sky is a top track, up there with the best. Oh yes and there's a face melting solo BOOM. Soon as I listened to this album, I gobbled up his next album and started stalking him. What a axe slinger boy can this guy can play!!! He young, did this at nineteen, British and a local prodigy.
Get into this guy if you know what's good for you!! :)

Having seen this young guitarist play live, he will blow your socks off. He is probably one of the best guitarists that I have seen in recent years. This album is great and I think that he is an up and coming talent, UK's answer to Joe Bonamassa perhaps. Whatever your views, give this a go and catch up with him live, you will not be disappointed.
