About the Author

Rudy Rucker is a writer, mathematician, and computer scientist, with thirty-two published books. In the 1980s, he received Philip K. Dick Awards for his cyberpunk novels Software and Wetware. He took up painting in 1999 and has had three shows of his pop-surreal works in San Francisco. His fantastic novel of the afterlife, Jim and the Films, appeared in 2011, as did his memoir, Nested Scrolls: A Writer's Life. Rucker is presently working on a 1950s science fiction novel called The Turing Chronicles, featuring a love affair between computer pioneer Alan Turing and Beat author William Burroughs. Rucker also edits the speculative fiction webzine Flurb. Recent works include his autobiography, Nested Scrolls; a book of his paintings, Better Worlds; a science fiction novel, The Big Aha; and a new edition of his Kerouac-style novel All the Visions. A Science Fiction Masterpiece, Hilarious from the get go. A journey into a bizarre world of mathematics and philosophy in a utopian society where drugs are encouraged but gardening is not. A wonderful ridiculous romp. highly highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars A magical physics tour 17 Sept. 2002
By Glen Engel Cox - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A weird one from Rucker, but then, that's kind of a redundancy; everything from the mind of Rucker has a weird stance. This one posits the idea that space/time is a continuum, and circular in nature. That is, if one was to increasingly make oneself smaller and smaller, after passing through the various levels (atomic, subatomic, etc.) one would then start progressing through space (universe, galaxy, solar system, etc.). Like Robert Anton Wilson's "Schrodinger's Cat" trilogy, Spacetime Donuts posits the theory, then fits a story around what it might be like if that theory were true. Rucker's writing style, at least in this early novel, is most similar to the early novels of Philip K. Dick, but whereas Dick was focused on the nature of reality from a psychological and philosophical viewpoint, Rucker comes at it from a mathematical and physical view.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life 12 Aug. 2003
By Constance Desiree - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Although, I like White Light better, this book, Spacetime Donuts changed my life. I almost felt like it was written with me in mind :). The adventures of Vernor Maxwell and Mick Stones with the Professor is a story that inspired me to write this review. I hope that my Alice shows up just like at the end of the book. It caused me to write my own comic book. :) How about that? Pick it up if you can and see for once and for all, who the real King of the Cyperpunks is.
