I had fished with Redgill Lures as long ago as the late 1970s and early 80s. I had mostly used them to catch Pollock. They were known to have a fantastic action, irrisitable to fish!

As time went by, angling fashioned changed and Redgills became less used. In the last few years there has been something of a revolution with the use of soft plastics in sea fishing. Various shads and sand eel imitations became very popular and effective. The key advantage that these lures brought was inbuilt lead, making the lure heavier and therefore they 'fished' closer to the bottom; putting them in the feeding zone of cod and bass. Redgill lures had been left behind.

When Redgill launched their Redgill Evolution lure, I was keen to give them a try.
At first glance, they look very similar to the original lures, except that the lure now has the hook protruding from the top. The original Redgill lures had the hook on the underside. The hook is 'inbuilt' as opposed to the old Redgills, were the hook could be removed. This hooking arrangement is common amongst all modern soft plastic lures. As soon as you pick up a Redgill Evolution you realise that weight has been added, but they are not too heavy.

My first fishing trip using a Redgill Evolution, was over a reef mark, known to produce bass. On the first drop, I hooked a Cod. I continued to fish and caught 13 Bass and a John Dory. All on the same lure! Many of the modern soft plastic lures would be unusable after just a few fish, as their 'softness' means that the teeth of fish like cod and bass, would ensure that the lure would be shredded. The Redgill Evolution stood up to its first 'test run' with flying colours. Some of the other sandeel imitations spin in the water, which can lead to tangles, particularly as the tide slackens.

Really good lures !!!
After a few early season Kayak trips every fish i caught was pretty much on 4" sand eels
I have used these trolled from my Kayak and had a few Bass .
I have also used them jigging on the bottom set up like a drop shot rig and had lots of Pollock,Whiting and Cod .
Quite durable and a really good action . Top Lure A++++
