Its great that this show has been restored back to its original glory with a better picture quality and sound then the R1 version and MORE importantly it has the original soundtrack , all the music how it was first broadcast alll those years ago.

People who remember this show will love rewatching it , people who have seen it on FX can now own it and hear how it should have been on FX.
People who havent seen it will like it great drama and a great cast.

The bonus disc has part one of a "making of" documentry where you get to find out about the shows creation , the stars thoughts and so much more, why some of the main cast were killed off.

The stills galleries are fantastic ,long since gone and hard to find items are here as fans of the show were involved in helping to make this great bonus disc. The makers of this boxset have done a fantastic job.

So what do you get for you money,
well I wont tell everything as its nice to get a suprise , I'll let others tell you there thoughts ,
however you do get a very detailed Booklet with an episode guide, obviously detailing each episode.
This is also recreated on the bonus disc , and before each episode plays you can see its details. On the back cover of the booklet are the quotes that are at the beginning of the episode.
There are 45 small photos in the booklet some colour some black & white. Have we seen them before , most TOD die hards will have seen them on the various TOD sites but not everyone will have seen them all.
The actual discs, well they all the same in look , (they unlike the Sony ones don't have pictures of the cast on them or a scene ), which I don't know if I like of not .

I just received my copy of Tour of Duty season 1, and immediately sat down to check it out. The documentary was wonderful. Very interesting to see the genesis of the show and even more so, the emotions that were evoked on the faces of the cast and crew. This was a very special project for them. Even after more than 20 years they obviously are very proud of their work on the show.

Give the producers a lot of credit for providing many extras including extensive photo galleries, cast and character bios, and even a glossary of terms.

It's wonderful to watch the episodes with the original music. Now I fell in love with the show and the characters even without the original music, so that tells you how powerfully affecting it is, but it's just that much more special to have the sixties soundtrack. And the video quality is improved from the Sony release in the U.S. Of course it can't compare with today's high definition, but it's absurd to expect that.

If you're a fan, these DVDs are well worth the investment. If you're new to the show, check it out.

i have a dvd collection of over 2000, but can honestly say I have never been so excited about any other release. for years i dithered about buying the region 1 version, and even when in the states last year, in a dvd store in manhatten that is at the bottom of broadway over 3 floors as you get towards battery park for the statue of liberty and is well worth a look if you are ever over there, (i usually fill up a piece of hand luggage there) even though it was on sale at $10 each i just could not bring myself to watch it 'incomplete'. the songs used often helped portray the intent of a scene, and their removal meant that the scene was often affected as a result.

so when i happened to do a spontaneous search for it and the R2 release was there i prayed the original soundtrack was complete - and much to my surprise it was!

the series itself was of the highest calibre - instead of trying to cast 'big' names, they wisely went for relative unknown actors, but ones who seemed perfect for each role. it could easily have been a glorified, USA shoot'em up, but instead paid homage to the vietnam conflict, and portrayed many of the horrors of the war, but without the bad language and too much blood and gore - instead you were gripped by the drama and the development of the characters throughout - who can forget terence knox's down-to-earth portrayal of zeke and tony becker's role as percell, who starts as an ex-rotc volunteer in the pilot and ends up awol and hooked on heroin by season 3. there were also some memorable guest appearnces by the likes of lee majors, carl weathers, a young kyle chandler and kim delaney popping up in season 2.

Can't really add much to what the other reviewers have said: Great show, original music soundtrack intact, excellent box set package with some nice bonus features etc. etc.

BUT - I thought it might be worth mentioning that the episode synopses in the booklet that comes with the set contain spoilers. And while this won't be a problem to those who've seen all the episodes and are familiar with their content, those who may be viewing ToD for the first time (or who may have forgotten what happens in this episode or that) are advised NOT to read the episode synopses before watching the disks if they want to avoid reading spoliers.
