Book Description

Proven effective by scientific research and presented here by Dr. Dharma Singh Khalsa and Cameron Stauth, the practice of Medical Meditation revolutionizes the healing process. By balancing and regenerating the body's ethereal and physical energies through simple meditations, Medical Meditation unites the mind, body, and spirit into a powerful triad.

Each Medical Meditation here has a specific physiological effect, targeting afflictions from arthritis to ulcers to cancer. Dr. Khalsa details the five unique attributes that endow this type of meditation with far more power than standard meditation. The combination of special postures and movements; exact positioning of the hands and fingers; particular mantras; specific breathing patterns; and a unique focus of concentration can change your entire biochemical profile, easing you into a calm, healing state. Practiced in conjunction with conventional or alternative medical treatments, cutting-edge Medical Meditation activates the healing force within you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book that can really help! 29 Jun. 2001
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I have been reading/practicing yoga for 18 months, and recently became very interested in Kundalini yoga. I have several books on the subject, but Meditation as Medicine is the best. It's a lot more than a prescription book, it explains the basics of Kundalini yoga, Healing, and self healing in a very easy to understand language. The book is very well written, I picked it up, and could not put it down. The index, the way the chapters are laid out is very clear and make finding the information you want easy. I especially liked the Medical Meditation Chart on page 171, which let me find 'my' meditation at a glance. I just started Medical Meditation, but finally, I'm sure I found something that will really change my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cutting-edge alternative healing 11 May 2003
By Peter Uys HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
The author integrates ancient wisdom and time-tested healing techniques with modern science in this informative and practical book on self-healing. The interesting foreword is by author Joan Borysenko. The purpose of medical meditation is to balance the mind, body and spirit into a powerful whole, for a better, healthier life. It provides specific medical meditations for physiological effects, including special movements and postures, mantras and breathing exercises. How to activate the healing force via the chakra system is discussed in detail and the book includes a section on staying young with the help of nutrients and maintaining endocrine health with meditation. It concludes with a list of sources, recommended reading and an index. Helpful illustrations demonstrate some of the exercises. Khalsa goes into very specific detail and provides information that I have never encountered in similar books on spiritual and mental healing. I recommend this book to all practitioners of alternative healing therapies and to all people who wish to take responsibility for their own health.

The strength of this book is in its comprehensiveness, covering individuals' stories of transformation, the science behind meditation, that feeling of guidance from the author himself, and exercises many of which are inspired by or similar to Kundalini yoga. The integration of research and practice, and of conventional medicine with a holistic approach, are appealing and well validated in this book. This book has impacted for the long-term the way I view breath, and I try at least a little each day to practice conscious breathing! This is a book I will return to in future, especially if I suffer from any physical or psychological 'ailments'. For a beginner, I would recommend using this book in conjunction with going to a kundalini yoga class or at least checking out some of the chanting via internet searches, because it is difficult to get a sense of the exercises and chanting from reading text alone and it's easy to be put off unnecessarily. I would love to see an updated version of this book, which was written over 10 years ago, as I'm sure the science (and his own practice) has further developed albeit in baby steps!

Absolutely fantastic book which I also have in paperback.
This is my go to book at all times of illness or stress- rely on the mantras daily especially the medical and lost hope ones. Always feel a sense of calm come over me once I chant these mantras and they never fail to help.
Cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone even if you have never meditated before there is something in this book for everyone who, is willing to open themselves to the wisdom in these pages.
I feel very passionately about this book as it has helped me on so many occasions - I brought the paperback over ten years ago and the kindle version recently. If you love books you will have a book that occasionally you stumble on and feel you need to pass on to others - this book is one of the few I have felt this way about.
Sometimes books are like people in that they touch your life at a time when you most need them and you are never the same- always grateful for the gifts they have imparted upon. You feel blessed to have found them and want to share what you have gained with others - that is how I feel about this book.
So if you are reading this review and buy this book I hope only that you find in some small part the grace this book has bestowed upon me.

I really love this book. I already practise Kundalini Yoga, this is a great complement to that practise, to the point that I am finally practising meditation on a daily basis. It is truly a gift.
