As someone working in the community and politics, I really enjoyed reading
Joan Roberts's new book Governance for Collaboratives: A Guide to Resolving
Power and Conflict Issues. The book talks about what really happens in
community based collaboratives-the turf wars, the big egos and underground
political dynamics. Her systematic approach to developing a collaborative
process will be useful when I bring people together to work on local
environmental change projects. I will try to adopt her "conflict is normal"
approach to collaboration and work through the hard issues rather than
avoiding them. I would recommend this book to environmental activists.
