The more lines that a screen contains, the better the picture quality. To compare, HD-Ready sets have 768 while standard definition (SD) sets have just 576 lines. The letter p refers to its progressive or non-interlaced picture-scanning process where all the lines of the image are refreshed by every vertical scan. 1080p is the maximum resolution defined for HDTV use and this format is used for Blu-ray Disc™ ® and PLAYSTATION®3

Cinema Mode precisely reproduces details such as natural skin tone, lighting, colour and contrast. In 24p True Cinema mode films can be watched as the director intended for the big screen - at 24 frames per second. Standard TVs use 25 frames a second which means they play back 'faster' than they do in the cinema.
