Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Get connected without wires. The Wireless-N Home Router gives you a wireless connection that's twice the speed of Wireless-G so your whole family can share a broadband Internet connection and access files from almost anywhere in the house.

Wireless Freedom
Wireless-N technology lets you surf the web from the living room, play on-line games from the bedroom, and listen to your digital music in the kitchen. The extra speed lets you connect more devices, and move files faster. And Wireless-N works great with your older devices, too.

Device Connectivity
Keep your digital files in one place, and share them from any computer on your network. Four built-in 10/100 Ethernet ports make it easy to connect additional wired computers, storage, printers, and other wired devices to your network.

Security Made Simple
Wireless security and firewall protection help safeguard your home network and computers from most Internet attacks.

This is a small but good looking piece of kit that is relatively easy to set up and use.

No problems with drop outs or disconnects were experienced so it seems fairly robust in operation.

Documentation could be better but the cd does contain installation software which is fairly straight forward.

Just remember its for cable connections only - it wont work with BT or other standard phone line internet connections.

    Overall good value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good For Standard Home Users, 24 Mar 2010

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Linksys by Cisco WRT120N Wireless-N Router - 150 mbps (for Cable connections i.e Virgin Broadband) (Electronics)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
This router works well for a home user with simple requirements. It comes with an ethernet cable, and supports the following security modes:-

    WEP
    WPA Personal
    WPA2 Personal
    WPA Enterprise
    WPA2 Enterprise
    RADIUS

As such the majority of users should have no compatibility issues.

The router could have been improved upon if it had the capacity to simultaneously use WPA and WEP. This would give the user the ability to connect devices through WEP, for example a Nintendo DS, whilst the rest of the devices are still connected through WEP.

It is also important to note that although Cisco state that the WRT120N is a "Wireless N" route, it is not actually draft 802.11N certified. This means that the true speed of a wireless N router cannot be attained using this router.

The Cisco Linksys firmware is quite limited with this device. Many advanced users prefer to replace the firmware with a third party version. At the point of writing this review there does not appear to be any third party firmware that is compatible with this router.

Documentation received with this product is very limited. If you are a windows user a cd setup wizard will help you to configure the router. If, however, you run another operating system it may not be quite so straightforward. In our case the router was connected to a PC, with the ethernet cable supplied, running on a Linux system. We then had to guess that the IP address would be 192.168.1.1, and that the default username and passwords would be under admin. These facts are not mentioned on the documentation supplied.

Overall this router would be best suited to standard home users. For those who wish to have the fastest possible speeds, or for those who consider their needs to be that of a more advanced user, it may be best to consider a product that is more powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars smart, easy-to-install, does the job, 13 Aug 2010
By Jaymie (Cardiff, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Linksys by Cisco WRT120N Wireless-N Router - 150 mbps (for Cable connections i.e Virgin Broadband) (Electronics)
Bought this for a friend's home setup, to give them wireless internet access from their ageing ntl:/Virgin broadband setup.

Installation was a doddle, although it's quite hilarious how many items in the box have a sticker on them telling you to run the CD before plugging in the router! It autoconfigured and was all up-and-running within 10 minutes, with very little intervention from me (a good thing). Signal strength was strong, so speed was good, even with the router in the upstairs study and the actual laptop being used in the lounge, downstairs and to the right of that.

Overall, very impressed with this. Not the cheapest router, but the trade-off with that was not spending hours tweaking configuration settings to persuade it to work. It just did it.
