A compact little carpet cleaner that is ideal for use on stains and on the stairs, 6 April 2010

The Vax Rapide 2 Carpet and Upholstery Washer is an excellent appliance for removing stains and general dirt and grime from your carpets and upholstery. The cleaner is light weight, with a robust exterior to protect it from knocks and bangs. The compact item fits snugly together, allowing it to be stored away after use in small areas (cupboards, under the stairs, on top of units etc). The compact size also allows the appliance to easily fit on a standard sized stair, in order for the user to successfully clean a full set of stairs without any hassle whatsoever.
The instruction manual that comes with the product is clear and concise, allowing for ease of use from the very outset. The preparation of the appliance before use is straight forward, simply pour the soap solution into the `clean tank' up to the `soap fill' level, then add warm water to the `water fill' level mark. The tank itself is removable from the rest of the appliance making this easy to do.
The actual cleaning process is relatively simple as well (see the included video footage). The first stage is to spray the shampoo solution on to the area you wish to clean, then whilst still keeping further solution slowly pumping out, rub in the liquid over the entire area. Finally, you stop the shampoo from pumping out and instead rub over the chosen area with the underneath brush, sucking up all of the dirty liquid. The results can not only be seen on the carpet itself, but also in the murky `used-water' tank on the appliance.
The cleaning process does not require too much hard work. The most strenuous part of the process is having to go over the area with the brush after the shampoo has been applied and worked into the carpet, to remove the excess water. Even this is hardly back breaking.
The product comes with a small bottle of Vax AAA Shampoo, which has removed a variety of stains from our carpets as well as a remarkable amount of general girt. The bottle included is only small, and will suffice for just a few cleans - so it's best to buy an additional larger bottle of this shampoo with the appliance as well.
The cleaner is not designed to be used to clean entire carpets in one go, but instead to clean small areas and stairs etc. This does not mean that you can't do a whole carpet in a room; but expect to refresh the water tank a few times to complete just one entire room. If a carpet cleaner for entire rooms is what you are looking for, then this is not for you - you would need to buy an upright one. That said, we managed to do the whole carpeted stairs and one medium-sized stain in one go.
Like when first using a powerful Dyson vacuum cleaner, you'll be surprised at how much general dirt and grime the cleaner brings out. The end result is a brilliantly clean finish to the area.
Only one very small point - when shampooing the carpet, it states that you should hold the nozzle an inch above the carpet and spray on the cleaning solution first. When you do this, the angle and spread at which the solution comes out is quite wide, therefore when doing the stairs, it is impossible not to get any solution on the skirting boards at the side. This solution obviously then needs to be wiped off in case of damage to the wood etc.

Dont forget its small, 8 April 2010

If you want to get tough on those small annoying splats, splodges and spills, then this is just up your street. It isn't designed for covering large areas, it's a spot remover and it does that, just great. You'll need a little elbow grease but you can see your results being sucked up the tube before your very eyes - in fact when you empty the container you'll be somewhat surprised at what came out. I'm a man and not into cleaning carpets (stop it feminists) but I get heavy wear on the first couple of stairs in my stairway and have a light coloured carpet that I wanted cleaning. This did a great job on getting the grime removed and lifting the overall colour of the offending steps to my satisfaction and it didn't take me long, or involve too much effort. My wife thought the results were great.
Follow the instructions and be prepared to put in a little effort (only a little) and you'll get out of it (and the carpet) exactly what you want.

brought this machine as my upright floor cleaner had lost its attachment.Husband had sat on a chocolate by accident a few months earlier,after several attempts at using various chemicals nothing would shift the stain ,by this time well and truly grimed in.Then this little item arrived and after 2 cleans and a bit of elbow grease the stain has gone and my pale yellow sofa is like new.
