Synopsis

Ex-boxer Merle Hench makes a living as a mob enforcer for a San Fernando crime syndicate. Set-up to take the blame for the theft of a million dollars from a rival mob boss, Merle miraculously survives the hit, and manages to take for himself a share of the missing money and a beautiful girl. Many others would have taken off but Merle has a score to settle and his former employers are about to realise exactly why it is he is known as 'the butcher'. The hard way.

A personal favorite of the newer gangster films, this one is old-style and great. Sure, it can't compete with KING OF NEW YORK or SCARFACE or RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER, but it is a class of its own and I enjoyed it very much.
A great cast (Eric Roberts, Robert Davi even Michael Ironside in a short role)are responsible for the 5th star in my rating.
