This was bought to replace an old HP plain paper fax that burnt out after a good 15+ years of service. The network version of the machine was purchased over the stand alone version and it was a good choice. As this is a fax it needs a phone line so it sits next to the phone socket that has my adsl wireless router connected and so plugs straight in there, simple.

Once connected Windows 7 can view it on the network, I gave it a static IP address over the default DHCP assigned one. I then installed the software and even though it isn't listed as being Windows 7 compliant it installed and worked fine.

After the software was installed I could print fine remotely using the wifi connection, I also found that I could scan remotely also which is a great feature and means I can ditch the usb scanner I use from time to time.

The paper tray is a bit on the small size and so wouldn't really be suitable for someone printing a lot, I have a networked colour laser printer for this so it is not a problem and it has a memory if it is not able to print for whatever reason.

It does seems little slower than the old HP fax in terms of negotiating the fax connection but not really a problem and it worked straight out of the box with the phone pass through to my DECT phone and answer machine.

It has some features that I will not use like colour faxing so I cannot comment on these.

If you want a fax and/or networkable printer/scanner at a decent price then this should be on your short list. The only improvement I would ask for is a bigger paper tray, but this is not enough of a hindrance to me to warrant a drop below 5 stars.

I bought this network printer because I was fed up with sharing a local (Lexmark 4350) printer between the three or four laptops / desktops in the family office, and especially making sure the server it was connected to was actually switched on.

The last straw for the Lexmark was the addition of a Windows Vista laptop alongside the rest of our XP servers. No way could we get the laptop to be able to use the printer - even with help from Lexmark's tech support. The more we fiddled about, the worse things got - so even my XP laptop couldn't print.

So I found this Epson Stylus Office BX310FN as the best looking low cost networked printer. I went for the Ethernet option, rather than wifi, to keep things as simple as possible.

The printer is attractive; it's a little noisy in operation - especially the first page in a job, but the multisheet document feeder is a real boon for copying and scanning (careful though - it really doesn't like any slightly crumpled originals - it will jam quite easily). I particularly like that you can scan multiple single pages to a single target from the doc feeder or from the document table.

The print quality is fine for my purposes, and best of all the ink seems to last better than the Lexmark - especially the black cartridges (most of our printing is B+W; we almost never print photo-quality). I am looking forward to saving money on the separate colour cartridges - changing each colour as it empties.

Previously had a R265 which was great for general printing and photos but it had come to the end of its time so looked around for a replacement but including copier facility. The BX310FN seemed to fit the bill but alas the photo reproduction is just awful!! Tried with different settings and paper types but could not get clear true colour photos out of it - very disappointing. In dseperation returned it to Amazon and re-ordered the PX650 instead which seems much better but still not as good for photos as my old R265. Rod
