Spain released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), Spanish ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Biographies, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: This modern crime drama uses the names of the homonymous Shakespeare play's main characters which inspired its plot. White London Metropolitan Police commissioner Sinclair Carver promises to maintain law and order and further racial integration by recruiting and promoting black and Asian officers, but is taped in the lavatory by a tabloid reporter telling his assistant commissioner Ben Jago there is no black with a brain as big as his dick, and is thus forced to resign. When the death of the black Billy Coates in custody causes racial unrest, John Othello, the only authoritative black police officer, manages to prevent riots by pointing to the press and promising to solve the case; the government names him successor to Carver over his friend Jago's head. The ambitious Ben doesn't show his furious disappointment, but must have his revenge. His plots starts by making sure racists harass Othello's white wife Desdemona, so he can have her 'well guarded' by smooth white superintendent Michael Cass, and then makes John believe he's a bit too friendly with her. Meanwhile he makes sure the Coates investigation ends in an innocent young cop's suicide and a mistrial. Now he plants false DNA proof of Dessie's infidelity - will Othello, who believes his world is crashing down, actually bring it on himself in despair? SCREENED/AWARDED AT: BAFTA Awards, ...Othello (2001)

Don't usually like modern versions of Shaky but this is exceptional. Brilliant cast very well acted and script retains and respects all the Shakespeare twists ans turns. This Spanish edition plays in English so no problems with language. Spanish subtitles can be turned off.

I was little concerned when it arrived and instantly started to speak Spanish, panic did I not read the details correctly? when into setting
changed to English fantastic my faith have been restored. This is a very powerful drama, which reflects in reality when you felt that you had the most sincere friend, who deceives and destroy you, all because they felt what you had achieved in life should be belong to them.

Never underestimate your fellow man especially, now that society have become so desperate, because of the current situation i.e.
cost of living etc., there r those who will not hesitate to sell their soul and will have no fear in destroying you to get what they want
so difficult to know who to trust, all we can do is be on our guard and not to be blinded.

Faithful to the spirit of the play, this film updates Othello and points up its relevance today. It deals with issues of jealously, insecurity, ambition and love, all of which are timeless. It also addresses contempory issues of race, power and corruption. Acting is impressive throughout. Recommended.

Well I have just finshed watching Ferry To Hong Kong and I have to say what a great film it is.Two great actors Orson Welles and Curt Jurgens play the leads in this film from the British colonial days in Hong Kong.Curt Jurgens plays Mark Conrad who because of his bar room brawls is kicked out of Hong Kong and forced to go to then then Portugese colony of Macau where they will not let him land because of his earlier antics there.Forced to stay on the boat much to the dismay of the captain Orson Welles , he encounters a typhoon , pirates and a love interest played by Sylvia Syms.By the end of the film him and the captain make amends with each other and he sort of promises to stop drinking and sort his act out with his maybe girlfriend.Directed by Lewis Gilbert beautifully filmed and very watchable it really does take you back to when actors were actors and not pretty boys like most of Hollywoods leading men of today.

A VERY ENTERTAINING FILM. THE FUNNIEST LINE FROM A MONSTER ASIAN PIRATE WHEN ACCOSTED BY A BELLIGERENT OLD LADY . QUOTE [ OLD ENGLISH WOMAN NOBODY WANT.] IF SHE MOVES SHOOT HER.THE FILM IS ABOUT AN ALCOHOLIC HOMELESS MAN [ CURT JURGENS ] WHO BECOMES STATELESS AND CANNOT LEAVE THE HONG KONG FERRY. HE MEETS A KIND YOUNG WOMAN AND THE REST IS OBVIOUS.RECOMMENDED
