5.0 out of 5 stars
A lot of fun, 18 April 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Secret Files 2 is an old style point-and-click adventure game, and had a lot to live up to if it was going to be better than the first installment Secret Files Tunguska (PC DVD). I was lucky enough to get a copy when it was released in Germany in 2008 and must say, had a lot of fun playing it.
When starting the game you will instantly see that it is a lot more polished than the previous game (infact, more so than than any other adventure game I have played full stop). The game looks absolutly fantstic, and the cutscenes are on another level altogether.
The game centres around a conspiracy plot by a sect (I won't give away anymore), and while it does seem vaguely similar to stories such as the da vinci code, it is certainly original enough to keep you guessing. The one slight gripe I have with this game is that while both the graphics and the plot have moved on huge ammounts since the original, the puzzles haven't. Much like in the first game, it's matter of combining items together to make (sometimes improbable) tools to get you further.
I have enjoyed this game a lot. It is not my favourite adventure game (it's still Dreamfall for me), but it isn't that far off either. Having played only the German version of this game I can't really comment on some things (the voice acting in particular), but unless they completely mess the English version up, I can't recomend this game enough.

As the title reads; this is a three part review. For best results read the sub-headings (indicated by *) to find what best describes you and read from there.
*For people that haven't played 'Secret Files: Tunguska'
If you're in to point and click story based adventure games; you'll
like this. We play the story from many vantage points and watch as all
the threads work themselves together into one perspective.
What I liked about the first game, and am glad to see it's the same in
this installment, is that the in-game puzzles are actually quite
logical. A Lot of the time in those point and click problem solvers the
solution can be so obscure that often you might have to check online for
walkthroughs, which, in my opinion, ruins the game. I like a puzzle to
be challenging but I like there to be a point behind it rather than just
something you have to do without really understanding how or why that
certain action works.
*For those who did play 'Secret Files: Tunguska'
'Puritas Cordis' has a similar, if not identical, playing style to
'Tunguska'.
If you check out my listmania-list on 'my favourite adventure games'; you
will see 'Secret Files: Tunguska' on there, I say something like; "I
hope there will be a follow-up". Well, now that it's here, I'm a little
disappointed. One of the reasons I was looking forward to a sequel was I
liked the first storyline and wanted to see it develop. Cast your minds
back to the first game. Nina was a bit of a girlie-girl, sure she
tinkered with motorbike engines but she, to me, mostly came over as a
good-hearted slightly mischievous young adult (A Nancey Drew that has
been laid). Where as now; she mostly, to me, comes over as a childless,
thirty-something, mother-type. It might be due to the voice actor(a much
deeper mature voice), and perhaps her 'improved' look (looks like her
hair's a bad dye job: big black roots and at some angles a cold-sore).
I think that the Sam character's voice is closer to how we remember
Nina From the first installment. Also, Sam is now the one who seems to
be the 'girlie-girl' (slightly mischievous young adult) - so that's
something.
*For new and old players alike.
Even though on the whole, I like this game, it seems very samey. It's
very 'Broken sword 3' just without the sleeping dragon. You know; what
with the multiple threads coming together. The revived ways of old sects.
Life after our heroes' break-up, and wondering whether they will fall
in-love again.
I do recommend you play the game, it's fun and has been a long time
coming, just don't have your hopes too high - that's all.

Solid adventure, 28 Jul 2009
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Played on windows vista64.
I enjoyed the first game, and SF2 is a good solid adventure game, but perhaps i preferd SF1 better for some reason. SF2 is interesting & enjoyable enough, your average run of the mill PnC. Yes the graphics are very good, But i wouldnt say overall it blew the genre away enough, in order to give more than 3 stars. It will keep you entertained for sure.
