Amazing!, 9 Jun 2010
This review is from: 7" Digital Video Photo Frame with Blue Lights & FREE 2GB SD Card (Electronics)
I already had a photo frame before buying this, but I was looking for one that plays videos, as the one I had didn't have that functionality. I decided to get this photo frame as all other photo frames that can play video that I looked at seemed to cost too much money for me, or didn't play video very well (according to reviews).
So, having purchased this photo frame, I can say that I am very pleased with its video playing capabilities. It doesn't play all file types, and you have to make sure that your video is below a certain resolution, but I simply played around with the export settings in my video editing software, now that I have got settings that work I can just stick to them for all videos I want to convert for playing on the frame.
Of course, videos aren't the only thing I use the photo frame for, I use it mainly to view photos. It does handle photos very well, It recognises the SDHC card I use in my camera, and couldn't be simpler to use in terms of quickly starting a slide show of photos. You can view your photos with just one click, whereas some frames require you to click multiple buttons. It displays the photos in good quality (not HD, but I wasn't expecting it to be amazing for the price, it certainly is good enough). I like the fact it comes with a remote (which works perfectly), and I like the fact that it has a USB slot and an SD card slot, so I can view photos/videos on a flash drive or SD card. It also plays MP3 files with no problems (not sure about other music file types). I haven't used its alarm functions, not something I need.
Overall, it is an excellent product, especially considering it isn't from a major brand. There are frames out there that have higher resolutions and so display the photos in better quality, but for the price you can't expect HD, it's great value for money. I would recommend it to anyone, as long as you bear in mind that if you do want to use it for video, you will need to know how to convert your video to a format and resolution it can play, it might not play your camcorder videos straight off. For those that are interested, I use .avi file type, 30fps, 16:9 ratio, 320x240 resolution.
Five stars. The fact that I got a free SD card with it was the icing on the cake!
