This is my second Freecom hard drive now, I bought a 320gb mobile that I keep in my laptop bag and I just got this 1TB monster a couple of days ago. I keep a backup of everything I have on this drive, I dropped around 400gb of photos, music and movies onto it, and it is near silent in use and always stays cool to the touch.

I've read lots of reviews about Freecom, on the whole positive and most importantly they have UK support (watch out for other brands without UK support, a friend has had nothing but trouble and was without his drive for 2 weeks when it went wrong)

I would recommend this drive highly and have already done so to friends!

In response to the previous post I thought I should ease the worries of mac users. I had the same problem when formatting but found this snippit which explains how to format it for use on macs:

"Use the Apple Disk utility software that comes with your Mac.

PARTITION your Mac as 1 Partition and while you are in that same window, SELECT OPTIONS.

THIS IS THE KEY: There are 3 radio buttons in the popup window for formatting options. The drive was preset as the bottom button PC formatting and you have to chose the middle button which is for Mac.

Click apply and finish formatting your drive. Works perfectly."

Just had the hard drive for about a week now, and already in love with it. Reformatted to NTFS format. Actual Available space: 931GB (Kind of expected). This is my second Freecom Hard drive. Also have the 400GB Aluminium encased hard drive. I chose this model over the same priced Western Digital model (i currently own the 250GB MyBook), based on the reviews and my own personal experience with both brands.
I think I made the right decision, though both brands have served me well. As soon as i got the hard drive I dumped the entire 400GB from my other freecom onto this one and happy to say no problems though it took a long time lol.
This is my fifth external hard drive, so I think I have some experience lol (80GB, 250GB, 320GB, 400GB, and now 1TB. Brands include Toshiba, Lacie, Western Digital and Freecom). I currently have over 2TB in memory space and it keeps growing.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
