4.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BLAME HARMONIX FOR LACK OF GH SUPPORT!, 9 Jul 2008
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
It's not Harmonix' fault the guitars don't work with Guitar Hero, blame Neversoft for not programming the game to recognise it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Most fun i've had on 360 yet., 27 May 2008
By Al (England) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I'll start by saying that the only reason this game didn't get 5 stars overall is due to the price, which is extortionate. However, I don't agree with the Amazon Customer Review section being used to air opinions on how EA want to market their game, that is what forums are for. The review section is to give an overall opinion on all aspects of gameplay, not just the price. Those that have used this area to discuss the pricing may not have played the game and therefore cannot comment on the playability of the game.

This game is tremendous fun, as with Guitar Hero before and for me, it is quite possibly the best gaming experience yet, both solo and multiplayer. It can, however, take some getting used to.

The Drums are surely the instrument everyone will want to play, and justifiably so. They are amazing. They are a far more 'real' experience to play than the guitars from both the guitar hero games and rock band, and when playing on the harder levels, you really could believe you are a drummer. Only slight gripe is the noise the sticks make when hitting the pads, which is pretty loud. That said, having played on an electric drum kit, the noise of the stick hitting rubber is not that much different.
The pads themselves are reasonably sensitive and I have had no problems with any delays between hitting the pad and registering on the game. There have been reports of this, but you are able to manually calibrate the game to correct this issue should it arise.

The Guitar is more 'advanced' than the Guitar Hero guitars, with the solo frets near the main body of the guitar. I will agree with a previous reviewer that these do take a bit of getting used to. But this isn't guitar hero and its great to see something new to learn. Again agreeing with a previous reviewer, the effects toggle is easily knocked, and yes, it makes little difference unless using the whammy bar. I normally have the effects off anyway. Build is plasticky, but then again so was the build with the Guitar Hero guitars. I think the guitar is great and the option to play lead or bass as in guitar hero is cool as well, though whether the price tag is fully justified.... Will be interested to see the Mad Catz 'Telecaster' version being released at end June though.

The Mic seems to be of pretty good quality. Nice and weighty. Need to plug in via USB and use in conjunction with the normal x-box controller to set up and play (I didn't read the instructions as usual and it took me ages to figure this out). Similar to sing star is pretty much all i can say and as I can't sing, I haven't really used it all that much (except when I completely massacred 'In Bloom'!)

Gameplay itself is pretty much the same as guitar hero with the bars on screen and hitting the notes in the correct sequence/time. But there have been some nice tweaks and additions (solos for guitar/drums and singing (sort of)!). As is to be expected, all instruments ahve a pretty good tutorial, so picking up the game is easy enough, just wait to get to hard/expert.

As I said, overall this game should have had 5/5, but for the rediculous pricing. As for the actual game being sold seperately to the instruments....... Having said that, if you have guitar hero and any USB microphone, all you need to get are the Drums which will cut the cost considerably. And EA are fully aware of the controversy they have created by their pricing, but don't look like they are about to back down.

If you can afford it.... buy it. If not, wait and see if it comes down in price.....then buy it

5.0 out of 5 stars Those other guys must be playing with a different guitar!, 29 April 2008
By Simon Nelson (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This is the best guitar on offer for any interactive guitar based game. It looks and feels a million times better than the Les Paul guitar hero guitar, with separate solo buttons further down the neck which you can press without having to strum. Admittedly the strum takes a while to get used to and the game is slightly less forgiving than guitar hero so does require practice. On reflection though guitar hero took a little getting used to at first. Most of the review are based upon the fact it's expensive and isn't an exact copy of the guitar hero guitar. It's worth noting that Rock Band is developed by the team behind the first two Guitar Hero games. In the same way that Rock Band improves upon guitar hero in every way; so does the guitar.

This controller is much harder to use than the Guitar Hero one. The strummer is really spongy. It's also a crazy price.

1.0 out of 5 stars DOESN'T WORK WITH GUITAR HERO!!!
Not only expensive but is incompatible with guitar hero. Crap. And I don't like the spongey contact on the strum bar which makes it very hard to use for very fast riffs.
