This digital frame, supplied by Digital Era, arrived well ahead of the projected delivery time and I would have no qualms about purchasing from them again. The frame itself looks almost identical to the Digi View black frame range (costing just £5 more than the 10.4" version) except for the real wood over-frame, which is a really neat job and looks great from the front. The resolution is 800x600 and, although I would have preferred 1024x768, this is adequate to provide a good looking picture, even close up.

The manual is the usual basic roughly-translated affair but is enough to get you up and running. The remote and on-screen menu system is pretty intuitive and shouldn't pose any problems for the majority of people.

The renderer does a pretty good job of sizing photos to fit the screen but takes a second or two to do so. By saving 800x600 size versions of your pics the loading speed is greatly reduced.

The frame drops one star for not being able to fit my 2.2Gb microdrive in the slot, even though the manual says it should. It reads my SmartMedia & XD cards fine and had no problems reading from a 2Gb USB flashdrive via the included mini-usb adapter.

I've not had a chance to try the music or video options yet, though I didn't buy it to use those particularly. The manual says it will play MPEG 1, 2 & 4 video formats and MP3 format audio.

Excellent product. The picture shown does not do the frame justice. Looks just like a picture rather than photo frame and photo display is extremely clear. Would recommend, and service was also excellent.

This frame displays photographs extremely impressively and takes both SD and compact flash cards. (I discovered by accident that it's possible to insert the latter the wrong way round - though no lasting harm was done.) The frame has no problem with large image files, as I have used it with high quality (the image but not the photography!) 4MB JPEG pictures from my digital camera.

So why only three stars? There are a number ergonomic problems with it, plus one saving grace (or perhaps I should say 'button'). The manual is indecipherable, and the function of the controls on the frame itself seem very limited and un-intuitive. The remote control is the only way I found of getting it to do what I wanted - and it has the saving grace, a 'one push' button that starts displaying the photo-show. There's a handy holder for the remote on the back of the frame - just as well because the frame is probably unusable without it. So if you're buying this as a present for someone not very technically competent, make sure they know about that single button and the need to never lose the remote!

I haven't found any way of randomising the order of the photographs - there is a 'randomise' option in set-up but that randomises the transitions not the order. And I can't verify the usefulness of the on-board memory because I wasn't been able to access it - it didn't show up when I connected the frame to my computer using USB. Maybe there are instructions in the incomprehensible manual. Also I haven't tried the frame with video or audio.

A final reservation is the length of the power lead - including the mains lead and low voltage lead, this is a little over 2m. This seems standard for these frames, but it's too short if you want to mount the frame on a mantle-piece of high shelf. There ought to be a roaring trade in extensions for the low voltage lead!
