I love the Nancy Drew games and have played most of them. Crystall Skull is the latest one to date, and as such has a much more streamlined interface and slick feel than previous games. The plot is sound, the atmosphere is perfectly realized, and even the voice acting stands out from earlier efforts.

The only reason it didn't get the full 5 stars from me is that some of the puzzles make little sense, many are clunky, and involve a lot of unnecessary running form A to B, and back again. The difficulty (I played in Senior Detective mode) was vastly inconsistent, with some puzzles laughably easy, while others were randomly nails to complete, and I know I couldn't have finished the game without a walkthrough for back-up.

In addition, the game has yet another annoying progress-stopping mini-game that is more about grinding it out than using any logic or sleuthing ability. Every Nancy Drew game has one of these, and I'm sure I'm not the only player sick of Her Interactive listing them as an actual "back of the box USP or feature". We all know they're just there to add hours to the gameplay tally on the box blurb. If they weren't, you'd be able to save and load part way through, for example. At least it wouldn't punish the player in the middle of the plot, for no good reason.

However, if you're a fan of Nancy Drew, or just love a PC mystery game with plenty of atmosphere, high quality artwork, production values, and a quirky cast, then this one is definitely for you. If you're a puzzle purist, on the other hand, you might want to look elsewhere.

If you love Nancy Drew games this is one that would look good on your shelf. It is quite funny to swith with Bess once in a while, and still it is a game with Nancy as the main person. A lot of the puzzels are understandable, and not too difficult. And with this game Herinteractive has tried something new, to make rain. It is a great touch that this is not yet an other game with sun or wild weater outside.
It it a fun game, but i wouldn't recomend it as your first Nancy Drew game, because it is kind of just puzzle after puzzle with very little sleuting.

I will give the game 3½ start really (I gave it 3), because the charecters are great, the start is teriffic and there are lots of great things, but the game has too many puzzles and too little sleuting.
If you love Nancy Drew games do get the game, but there are other Nancy Drew games there are better, if you want to see what te series is like.
