Synopsis
Professor Willingdon (Barry Jones) is a scientist engaged on highly secret Government research. When he sends a letter to 10 Downing St threatening to blow up the Houses of Parliament within 7 days unless the Prime Minister agrees to his demands, it is first dismissed as a hoax. When Willingdon disappears however, alarm bells ring, and soon the whole of London has joined in the manhunt for this modern day Guy Fawkes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of the 1950s comes back!, 27 Jul 2007
To my knowledge, this classic period thriller was last aired some time in the 90s on Channel 4. I taped it and then waited for a VHS (and more recently a DVD release). Seemed like it was never going to happen...
I watch this every so often, just for pleasure. None of your high-tech cgi needed here, and I hope they are never daft enough to do a remake.

Barry Jones is Prof Willingdon - the scientist 'on the edge' - being sought by Andre Morrell as DSup Folland of Special Branch, assisted by Hugh Cross (Willingdon's assistant).

Oh, and they have 'seven days' to find him before London is in big trouble. At 'Noon'. You get the idea.

It features a tense plot, and some wonderful observations on 1950's London. When else could the postie walk up to the door of No.10 Downing Street without a Policeman in sight?

One of the minor characters is Mrs.Peckitt, played by a young(ish) Joan Hickson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Come on Trixie, 12 Feb 2008

The two previous reviews have said it all. I just wanted to add my 5 stars to the list. This is one of my all time favorites and I still watch it regularly on the old VHS tape I made from C4 all those years ago.
The atmosphere, the staging, script and acting are faultless. A period gem. Just writing about it makes me want to watch it again right now.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's in the wrong ratio - this film was made before widescreen., 8 Jul 2008
I love this film. I'd go as far as saying that it's my favourite British film of all time. That's the reason why I can only give this DVD a one star review - Optimum have now finally confirmed that they're releasing a faulty version of the film on this disc. As a movie produced in 1950, Seven Days to Noon was made two years before the introduction of matted widescreen - but Optimum have decided to release the same incorrect widecreen master as was recently supplied to Channel 4 (the one with a mixture of stretched and badly framed shots). Why? The film first started to appear for preorder and received a BBFC certification about 18 months ago, and from the word go people were contacting Optimum to inform them of the mistake. So thanks for not listening, Optimum, and thanks for spoiling a really fine film. I'm just glad plenty of people seem to have recordings of the correct 4:3 version - quite handy that it was still being shown in 4:3 after the advent of DVD recorders...

3.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant film, poorly presented
This is one of the must see British sci-fi films of the post war era, with more suspense than sci-fi. Read more
