Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Now that you can buy movies from the iTunes Store and sync them to your iPod, the whole world is your theatre. With a 80GB iPod in hand, those movies fit comfortably next to TV shows, new iPod games, podcasts, audiobooks, photo albums, and, of course, an entire library of music — up to 20,000 songs, in fact. iPod is a pocket-size prodigy.

Watch this space

How much can your pocket hold? That’s up to you and your iPod. It holds up to 20,000 songs, up to 25,000 photos, and up to 100 hours of video — or any combination of each.(1) So you can browse movies on the iTunes Store, download the ones you want, then sync it to your iPod. Same goes for TV episodes, new iPod games, songs, best-selling audiobooks, and an entire universe of free podcasts. Go ahead. Fill ’er up.

Suit yourself

From cases to car kits, customise your iPod with accessories made especially for it. Pick up an iPod Universal Dock for more convenient syncing. Add an iPod Hi-Fi for room-filling sound. Sync photos on the go with an iPod Camera Connector. Attach a voice recorder to take audio notes.

Play all day
With all that music at your fingertips, you may never want to stop listening. Lucky thing your iPod plays audio for up to 20 hours.(2) Or, if you’d rather watch, you can feast your eyes on movies and TV shows for up to six-and-a-half hours.(3)

Pack light

It might be a miracle. Otherwise, it’s hard to explain exactly how an 80GB iPod can be the same size as the 60GB model before it. However it happened, it means you can carry your entire music collection — plus a nice selection of video — absolutely everywhere you go. And a 60% brighter, more vibrant display gives your album art, photos, and video extra oomph.

Search and enjoy

Finding what you want to hear among 20,000 songs could be quite a chore — unless you have an iPod. A new interface lets you search your iPod using the patented Click Wheel. And if you’re a fan of live albums, classical works, or anything that sounds best when it’s continuous, iPod supports gapless playback that seamlessly transitions from one song to another.

1. Song capacity based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; actual capacity varies by content. Photo capacity based on iPod-viewable photos transferred from iTunes. Video capacity based on H.264 1.5-Mbps video at 640-by-480 resolution combined with 128-Kbps audio; actual capacity varies by content.
2. Up to 20 hours of battery life refers to 80GB model and music playback.
3. 6.5 hours of battery life refers to 80GB model and is based on H.264 1.5-Mbps video at 640-by-480 resolution combined with 128-Kbps audio. Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries for more information.
4. 1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.

5.0 out of 5 stars A legitimate piece of hi-fi, 30 Mar 2007
By A. Lodge (Northampton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having researched by purchase extensively, I am at a loss when reading negative comparisons in terms of the i-pod's sound quality relative to its man competitors.

I spent around a month demo-ing which DAP to spend my hard-earned cash on, and in the process heard the best of the rest...models from Sony, Creative, i-river, Toshiba, etc...

Based on the sound performance and sound performance alone (using my Etymotic ER-4P earphones), the i-pod would still have been my number one choice, although not by much. The Sony and Tosh were on a par, although the songs ripped using Apple's lossless encoder were, (unsurprisingly), simply superior, and with an 80gb drive, the capacity is enough to store around 300 albums...more than I own anyway.

The sound quality achievable by this thing absolutely amazed me. STREETS ahead of most of its competitors....clarity, tone, dynamics were positively analog in their presentation...a true pierce of hi-fi...not a claim that can be made by any of the others.

The fact that itunes is also the best, most user-friendly piece of software is an added bones.

If you really need a Swiss Army knife of a player, then the i-pod s not for you. This is not by any stretch the most feature-rich player, it has to be said.

However, if you, like me, simply want a portable version of your CD collection, with a strong emphasis on sound quality....then the i-pod is the ONLY choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, just brilliant, 4 Oct 2006
I have been an ipod fan for many years, but have always found the large ones less appealing; I had an iPod mini, my wife has an iPod nano, and my son an iPod shuffle.

However, the allure of 80Gb compared to my puny 6Gb, and the promise of a large colour screen versus my small black and white one persuaded me to sell my iPod mini and upgrade. And the battery life on my mini was always a disappointment.

What a fantastic peice of kit! The battery lasts for ever! (I've only ever got it down to half-full, and that was on a trip to Holland). The video is brilliant on the screen and now that you can put 640x480 video on it, is brilliant on a TV too. Even the games available to buy on iTunes Store are excellent quality - I particularly recommend Texas Hold'em.

And my biggest concern - the size of the thing - really is not a worry any more. If the last time you looked seriously at a full-size iPod was a generation or two ago, you need have no concerns - they really are alot slimmer and lighter.

I went for the 80Gb one because a) it's nearly three times the hard disk size for only £65 more, and b) because the battery in the 80Gb is nearly twice as good as the 30Gb one. And at last you really can trust that battery measurement!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, 26 Mar 2007
By attan111 (Scotland, UK) - See all my reviews

Finally took the plunge and upgraded from my old 20GB 3G ipod that i've had for 3 years.

I was surprised by how small the packaging on the new ipod was. The lack of accesories is money hungry by apple but apart from that, the pod is great. My old 3G charger works fine but my old iTrip is now obselete sadly. So far, i've maneged to put about 30gb of music and podcasts on and am chuffed to bits. The sound quality is as good as ever and the battery life is amazing compared to the 4 odd hours that i'd get from my well used 3G one. I never use the standard ipod headphones, and they look pretty basic. I'd always urge anyone to buy a good quality headphone anyway for their mp3 player (i've got shure E3C's) They make such a difference.

The only thing i haven't got yet is an iSkin. Whilst the iSkins are perfect for keeping the ipod fingerprint and scratch free, i've yet to see one that will allow me to use the new style iTrip (using the dock connector) without having to remove it. I look forward to taking it on holiday with me in the summer and not having it run out half way through the flight!!
