DVD Description

Two Thousand Acres Of Sky is BBC One’s beautifully written and acted top rating show starring the beautiful Michelle Collins (Sunburn, EastEnders, Real Women) and the hugely talented Paul Kaye (A Perfect World, Dennis Pennis). Set in the picturesque Scottish island of Ronansay, Two Thousand Acres Of Sky immediately won the hearts of the nation when it first hit our television screens, and the release of Series One on DVD offers hours of top notch entertainment for all the family.

Abby Wallace (Michelle Collins), a single mother living on a housing estate in London with her two young children spots an appeal asking young families to relocate from the mainland to the island of Ronansay in order to revitalise the neighbourhood. Recognising what a fantastic opportunity this would be to start a new life, Abby decides to apply.

The only problem is, Abby needs a husband in order to fulfil the required criteria for living on Ronansay. Undeterred in her quest, she enlists her best friend Kenny (Paul Kaye) to play the part and move with her and the kids to the remote Scottish isle to begin a new life. However, keeping up the charade isn’t easy, especially when Abby arouses the interest of the local salmon farmer, and it looks like he may not be the only man who’d like to be more than just friends...

Synopsis

On the small Scottish island of Ronansay the local school is under threat from closure because it has too few pupils. The locals take out an advert in the papers to entice a young family to move to island. Single mum Abby Wallace replies to the advert and persuades her best friend Kenny to pose as her husband. They manage to fool the locals and before long Kenny, Abby and her two children move to Ronansay. Features the complete episodes from series one to three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Thousand Acres of Sky - Series 1-3, 27 Mar 2008

I've watched this over a period of the past week - the full 22 hours. The weather outside was cold and grumpy, but seeing these three series again was absolutely FANTASTIC. Every one of the characters has their own individuality and Alfie - WOW what a fantastic little actor. His relationship with Kenny (Paul Kaye) was an uplifting experience to watch and at times SO funny. Michelle Collins as Abby, was very, very good. And as for Paul Kaye - well, what can I say!! such a natural, with a very individual and often incredibly sensible outlook on life. The scenery was wonderful, no swearing or violence. An absolutely FANTASTIC series, so enjoyable and truly inspirational. Wish there could be more programmes around to watch like this. So after 22 hours, I spose I'd better get on with the cleaning that I've wiggled my way out of this past week through watching the fantastic Two Thousand Acres of Sky!!!! Anni Duck

5.0 out of 5 stars One of those lesser remembered TV gems, 18 Jan 2009
By gbenquiries (Chelmsford, Essex, UK) - See all my reviews

Didn't pay much attention to this when it was first shown on TV - probably because, until I saw this, I was not keen on Michelle Collins. Couple of years later was recommended the series by a friend who loaned me their DVDs. Suddenly discovered what I had missed.

This is a poignant, funny and moving story (won't give away any plot detail) which builds very well through the three series in the set. It is extremely well acted and, if you like emotional roller coaster type stories you should give this a try.

A gem of a TV series and highly recommended viewing in my humble opinion.
