The little boy I bought this for is going to love it. He's going through a massive knights and castles phase at the moment and this is so detailed and it has a sword. I feel like I can't fail.

Nice for display, not much for playing with 26 April 2006

I purchased this little fellow in Prague after being given the Dragon for Christmas. It's a remarkably detailed piece, with an amazing level of historical accuracy in the armor and armaments of the 14th/15th century. It's made of highly durable plastic, and overall it's rugged enough to withstand the rigors of entertaining youngsters. I bought several other members of the Schleich Knights series for my two nephews, aged 4 and 6, so there is minimal concern that the detachable parts could be dangerous for young children. The pieces come in two opposing camps: the Red Fleur de Lis, and the Blue Lion, and each piece has a corresponding piece in the other, with somewhat different design and graphics. This reflects an impressive variety in styles of armament and armor of the period, and vastly improves the educational value of the series. This piece, as well as it's mate in the rival camp, is the most bland of the series, and it's "rival" piece is uncharacteristicly identical.

Amazing find 30 Jun. 2008

After a little searching around on the internet for 'knights and dragons', I soon learned that this was one of 2 options; that the rest were tiny figurines and not appropriate for some serious play. I was impressed with the size (4 inches), detail, quality, and strength/durability of the plastic toys. And I was very impressed with the price. My 4 year old boys love these. But they would also be great for an adult as they are so intricate. I definitely recommend this knight and brand.

A great toy 12 Dec. 2011

I bought some of the Schleich knights, including this one, for my 5 year old son's birthday. I can't say enough for these.

At first glance, these knights seem expensive, even when bought through Amazon. Although a bit pricey, the quality more than makes up for that. This figurine stands a few inches tall - it's not some tiny little thing. It's made of a resin-like material, extremely durable. In fact, our puppy grabbed one of the knights and tried to chew on it for a few seconds until we could grab it away - there wasn't a mark on it.

The level of detail with these figurines is exquisite. Even the chain mail on his arms is well painted - not sprayed silver, but silver with darker areas where the holes in the chain mail would be. Although they're apparently hand-painted, they're painted to perfection. I can't say whether the knight's garb is historically accurate, but I can say that there is an attention to detail that is awesome. As my son played with these, I found myself thinking that they looked so real that it was almost as if someone had taken a photo of Medieval soldiers. Awesome.

One bonus to these knights is that they're large, with few, if any, removable pieces (the lances of the mounted knights can be removed, and the mounted knights can be taken off their horses). In a house with other small kids and dogs, the size and lack of numerous parts is pretty key.

My son really, really loves these. There was a bit of downside in that. First, we couldn't get him to bed last night because he wanted to play with them all night. In fact, we had to agree to allow him to take them with him. Now he wants more knights for Christmas. He was previously into cars, but the cars appear forgotten. Then he immediately wanted to read books on knights and compare them to the figurines we'd given him.

Second, the knights are so attractive and so well done that my daughters want to play with them as well. That triggered any number of disputes last night. So we're ordering some princess-type figurines for my youngest daughter because she loves the Schleich horses so much.

Really, I can't remember the last time my only reservation about a toy was that my children liked it too much. Durability, educational value, fun, these knights can't be beaten. Highly, highly recommended!

I was disappointed with this purchase. I expected more durability for the price. The sword broke off the first day of play.
