Synopsis

Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley return to create more excessive substance and human abuse in another season of Absolutely Fabulous. The BBC series has become a perverse favorite all over the world as Edina and Patsy continue in their inspired comedic debauchery. This season features eight new episodes with guest appearances by stars Kristin Scott-Thomas, Elton John, Minnie Driver, and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweetie Darling, 25 May 2004
Well, the girls are back, and they are as fabulously nasty as ever.
This series sees poor Saffy pregnant to a Ugandan she met doing aid work in Africa.
Edina is delighted to have a mixed race grandchild as her latest must have accessory.
Patsy is jealous of the baby and tries to sell it, and failing that she gets it a modelling contract with Gaultier.
Gran is madder than ever and Bubbles doesn't seem to have aged at all since series one, first broadcast in November of 1992!
All the fans will buy this anyway, of course, but personally I think this series takes us back to the stylish form of the earlier series, after the rather dark and twisted days of series 4.
Enjoy it sweeties!

4.0 out of 5 stars Still going strong, not ready for the knackers yard yet!!, 26 Sep 2004
By A Customer
Much maligned in continuing on for series after series when "The Last Shout" claimed to call an end to proceedings. But series 5 is still well worth savouring, great performances, great cameos, banter and nonsense worth relishing-the highlight of the whole series though would have to be Jane Horrocks as Bubble in some inspired comic set-pieces. The best of the 8 episodes is "Book Clubbin'" with a great take-off of "Don't Look Now" and perfectly recaptures the hysterical spirit of classic ab fab!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nooooooooo!, 5 April 2008
By Bianca White "bianc93" (Gosport, Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews

I never thought I'd be typing this but Absolutely Fabulous Series 5 is far from good. There are some funny moments but the plots and characters have reached certain points that I think ruin the show.

Most notably, Saffy getting pregnant - The beginning of the end of the situation of this comedy. Having a child means Saffy is no longer part of that grotesque eternal triangle she unwillingly shares with Edina and Patsy. She'll be moving on with new priorities, bursting the bubble and wrecking the formula.
Secondly, everything about John, the father of Saffy's child, is just plain annoying. He is given nothing interesting to say and seems a very one-dimensional character. He's also played by a man (Felix Dexter) who is too old for Saffy and for the student dippyness he portrays. If Saffy was ever going to "escape" from Edina and Patsy, I would have liked it to be on a high note. The way it's been written, I want to slap Saffy for her poor decisions. Before you accuse me of being mean, think of how unkind Saffy is to her friend, Sarah. Lifelong chums and Saffy suddenly indulges in unforgivable spite towards her. Ok, this was Jennifer Saunder' fault as the writer and JS further crime is to subsequently depict Sarah as a stalker of Emma Bunton. Horrid.

I hate to say it, but the overall effect of this series is that we leave Ab Fab with everything sewn up the wrong way. I imagine big fans will want to buy this series in order to have the complete set but anyone thinking of buying for entertainment purposes may be disappointed.
