4.0 out of 5 stars Haven (2001), 16 Aug 2003
By A Customer
An embarassing episode of American history, this DVD remains unavailable in the American format. It was shown on television once.
Natasha Richardson plays the true story of Ruth Gruber who managed to save European Jews threatened by Nazi genocide. The movie demonstrates the American government's position that this genocide was NOT occuring even though the truth was known by the American government. Because the genocide was not occuring, per the American government, there was no need to allow the immigration of the threatened Jewish persons. Ruth Gruber managed to save some and bring them to America while
having to deal with American government obstacles.
Since this dvd remains unavailable in the USA, it is probably well worth watching! The true story is good and the acting and costume of Natasha Richardson is great.
Watch it and see why it is not available in America!

1.0 out of 5 stars Lest we forget ?, 31 Oct 2007

While not wishing to deflect from the wonderful acting carried out in this part by Natash Richardson I have to say that in my opinion the film is more of an attack on America and its failure to admit this "problem" was occurring than anything else and from comments I have read from others those views are reinforced. This film is similar to "Amen" in that respect save that in that film it is the Roman Catholic Church that is under attack.I think also it is time for the Jewish race to consider how many non-jews ALSO died in the Holocaust because this film is simply a biased, over-rated depiction of a moment in history which continues to promote Jews as the only ones who in any way suffered during WW2.
