The Avengers '68 Set 1-Linda Thorson Has An Unlucky Start, 15 Jun 2008
Poor old Linda Thorson got off to a bad start as Tara King, she was launched at a press conference with blonde hair, which then promptly fell out and Linda had to wear a series of glamorous wigs until her own hair grew back.
Filling Diana Rigg's shoes(as the iconic Emma Peel)was not an easy task,Tara is more vulnerable than Emma or Cathy Gale, she certainly isn't stupid though,of these first six Linda Thorson episodes, there is a slighly more serious tone to the show, than in the previous Diana Rigg colour series, although the wacky villians and the tongue in cheek scripts are still there.
I like the character of Mother(Patrick Newell)his typical British red tape manner and cries of "Don't get emotionally involved Steed" are a joy,he even turns up in a red London bus,to give out his orders in an episode, aided by the tall Rhonda, who never speaks.
"Game" is a very good episode, where a man plotting revenge, makes his enemies comitt bizarre board type games before dispatching them.
"False Witness" concerns a lying drug in milk, the episode concludes with Tara, encased in a hugh butter mountain,so the bizareness of The Avengers continues.
The Avengers writers are on record as saying the Linda Thorson episodes were the best scripts in the series history,so I'm looking forward to seeing the other Tara King episodes.

Actually rather good!, 3 April 2007
I'm a big fan of the Emma Peel Avengers, so having watched all the Peel episodes several times I thought I'd give these a go. I was a bit nervous at first but was pleasantly surprised, they still have the same feel as the Emma Peel Avengers. However Linda Thorson is no Emma Peel and often seems quite passive, Steed somehow seems more than a year older...Some of the episodes are just that bit too silly and begin to smack of a show that has jumped the shark and I can't stand the Mother character. So give these a go as most of the episodes are nearly upto the standards of the 1967 season....

Tara is a great gal!, 5 Feb 2009
At only 20 years old, and a total unknown and just out of RADA, Canadian Linda Thorson took on the daunting role of being of Diana Rigg's replacement in the final series of the original Avengers. To many it seems that Diana's Emma Peel was irreplacable, but in spite of a shaky start in production, which was not Thorson's fault, she went on to shine in 32 episodes, that saw a younger-looking, fresh and quite different sidekick for Steed.
Thorson is a stunning, natural beauty with dreamy-doe eyes and a brunette sensuousness. As Tara King, or Agent 69, she more than holds her own in a number of jewel, late 60's sci-spy episodes, which are expertly crafted and beautifully humourous. Many well-known faces appear, and the Thorson episodes also brings us perhaps the most recognisable theme tune of The Avengers.
The Tara King series was officially the most popular ever in the UK, France and the rest of Europe, and I strongly feel that whilst I really do love the Emma Peel episodes, all in all, Tara is my favourite lady, as she is so different, yet quintessientially still an Avenger's gal.
Well worth watching and sure to be enjoyed.
