Quick Reviews!, 3 Sep 2007
Two years on from the original and we are into the nineties. Grunge has taken over from hair metal, and some intelligence has been injected back into rock music. Therefore the antics of slackers Bill and Ted do not have the same impact as they had in their first movie. However, this is still a worthy sequel, and a funny movie.
In the future, the music of Bill and Ted has led to world peace, but a maniacal villain decides that if he can go back to before Bill and Ted were famous and kill them, he can change the future thus preventing their music from being heard. He creates two robot versions of Bill and Ted who quickly kill the humans and take over their lives. If the robots mess up the Battle of the Bands contest, the future will be sealed. Meanwhile Bill and Ted find themselves in Hell, their eternities going to be spent living a constant ironic punishment. This can be seen as a metaphor for the decisions youth must make- should we be forced to choose one path and follow it for the rest of our lives? Like the first film, the theme of choices, and what to do with your life is prominent here. Bill and Ted however realise the alternative- Defeat Deat at Chess, and return to the land of the living once more. This they do, and return to earth, via Heaven, to take back their lives, and save the world. Death comes along too.
The film has many moments of humour, lots of one liners and keeps the charm of the first outing. Yes it is all still very simple, with the message that music can heal the world being a little child-like and dated. However, if you read the message as being-music is escapism, freedom, then it works better than most other films. Reeves and Winter again are perfect for their roles, Death is excellent, and Rufus is as cool as always. As with the first film, it is not as stupid as it sounds, with many references to past works of art and literature mirrored beside modern works of music. An entertaining film whichever way you choose to look at it.
The DVD only has a trailer, but as with many others which cost a fiver, you can't ask for more

"Most Excellent Dude", 12 Sep 2002
This film never fails in making me laugh my head off. This one of those great little gems of a movie that brightens up even the most Bogus days.Everyone in the world should see this film! Its funny in so many ways and this means adults can enjoy it as well as smaller dudes and dudettes.Alex Winter's head full of mini curls and Hottie Keanu Reeves with hair that looks like his mum has cut it creates the perfect image for these teenage heros.I love this movie and I'm sure you will too. Remember "Be most excellent to each other and PARTY ON!"

Bogus Journey or Successful sequel?, 3 Jan 2003
THE FILM - I am a massive fan of the original film, Bill and Ted's excellent adventure and was horrified to learn that there was to be a sequel. The problem with comedy films, is a sequel is rarely as good as the original, and almost unheard of to be better and more successful. There was no need to worry, although Bogus journey is not as good as Excellent Adventure, there isn't much between them. Full credit to the writers of the film who didn't take the obvious route of re-badging old jokes. The journey begins with showing you life after Excellent Adventure. Bill and Ted have matured......NOT (waynes world saying, but it was originally in the bill and ted movies). Bill and Ted have their own apartment, still have their 2 medievil english babes and still trying to sound like the greatest band ever(with very little luck). All turns sour when two evil bill and ted robots are sent from the future to kill bill and ted, which they do. Bill and ted's only hope is to take on the grim reaper in a death match so that they can return to earth, save the babes, defeat the evil robots and win the battle of the bands competition. Do they defeat death or does he have a few tricks to ensure bill and ted can't execute their plan?THE DVD - This film deserves 4 stars, but due to the utter lack of content on the dvd i can only give it 2 stars. The outtakes, deleted scenes, commentary, biographys are all missing, surely there must have been something tasty that could have been included?? The only extras are the usual settings (which aren't exactly extras!) and the original trailer, which lets face it, if you own the film, whats so great about watching a trailer of the film? When you buy a dvd now, you usually get a lot of extras or a bonus dvd which makes you feel like you have your moneys worth. It seems bill and ted where put on dvd just for the 'excellent' picture quality alone. Buy it for the film, but dont expect much for your money. A truly BOGUS DVD when it comes to extras!
