Familiar to Millions

Amazon.co.uk

After the ludicrous props (Rolls Royce, clock, phone box) that cluttered the stage of their uncomfortable Be Here Now tour, the year 2000 saw Oasis wisely dispense with the theatrics and concentrate on being the world's greatest stadium pub rock band. And so, with just three mammoth video walls for company, they toured the stadia of the world. Big as the video screens were, there was little to see. Instead the drama, tension and entertainment of the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants tour lay in just two simple things: the band's straight-ahead rock and Liam Gallagher's mouth. Joyously, fine examples of both were recorded when they played Wembley Stadium. Musically, Oasis make good their claims to be the biggest and the best, with "Supersonic", "Shakermaker", "Cigarettes & Alcohol" and "Live Forever" rocking like the pub classics they are. As for Liam, Familiar To Millions wouldn't be half the album it is had his inane ramblings, brotherly abuse and audience taunts been edited out. That's where the real live atmosphere lies. That, and the humbling sound of 70,000 voices singing as one the choruses of "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back In Anger". --Dan Gennoe

Rock n' roll? It's dead isnt it? Well not quite. Not while there are albums like this around. From the opening chants of "Oasis! Oasis!" you know that you're in for a big, bold, brash experience, a premonition only confirmed by Go let it out! 's extended ending and the rock n roll apocalypse that is the closer - Rock n roll star. In between we have the swearing and crowd heckling of Liam Gallagher and Noels own line in humour, but this album is all about the songs. Champagne supernova, Acquiesce, Who fels love?, Live forever, Dont look back in anger...to call it life affirming is overstepping the mark, but what this album does do is reaffirm your belief in rock n roll - sure, Radiohead are more experimental, but with songs like these who cares? The live sound is exciting and vibrant, with many songs improving on the original - Go let it out, Rock n roll star, Gas panic and Stand by me the most obvious examples. At the end of the day, most Oasis fans will own these songs already, but to hear them as they were meant to be heard, in front of 70,000 fans, live, with no edits or studio trickery - this is rock n roll, and its doing just fine, thanks.

Three years after Be Here Now dropped them in a mudslide, Oasis released what is still an underrated album in Standing On The Shoulder of Giants, and then this, one of the finest live albums you're likely to hear. Liam's live vocals are probably at their peak here in terms of his Oasis career; only recently with Beady Eye has he been able to rediscover some of his old magic in regards to live singing. Nonetheless, he was still able to explode into life on this two-disc LP, with the Wembley crowd in the palms of his hands. Other than their own material, which they absolutely nail, one particular highlight is Noel's cover of Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)". As he did with David Bowie's "Heroes", Noel gives the song a touch of Oasis and it works a treat.

This album is a must for any Oasis fan obviously, but also for lovers of Britpop and 90's rock. Regardless of what cynics say about Oasis post-"What's The Story...", they were always a great band and on the stage they never let anyone down. This album is proof of that.

As the concert for which I had a ticket on the oasis tour was cancelled, I HAD to own »Familiar To Millions«! A better than just average live double album which leaves no doubt behind: It is oasis, typically oasis!
It starts out with the three first tracks from the latest studio album »Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants«, and in general, the choice of songs is quite OK as the best song from that record, »Gas Panic!«, is also on »Familiar To Millions«.
The highlights are »Go Let It Out«, the speedily rocking »Step Out«, and not least the outrageous choir (=the crowd!!) on the megahits »Wonderwall« and »Don't Look Back In Anger«. The crowd's enthusiasm really turns this double album into an amazing live experience, a TRUE live album!
The party ends in a great way with the explosively performed »Helter Skelter«.
Then it doesn't matter SO much that that concert was cancelled... Although I wish I'd been there myself!

Well they have eventually released a live album. And about time too!!!! Having seen oasis play about 15 times in their career from mad night at the Buckley Tivoli to Bolton's Reebok Stadium, via some massive gigs and Maine Road and Knebworth, the band are essentially at their best when live. Possibly the best concert I have seen them play was at knebworth but this is as good as it gets anyway. The witnessing of 70,000 at the mercy of a rock band is inspiring. From the opening chants of "oasis, oasis" you know you are on a rock'n'roll rollercoaster, with far too many peaks than troughs. This album could as well be a live greatest hits album with all the songs you know and love. Will not disappoint......with the improved musicianship of gem and andy bell the band as a unit are superb

Stage banter, wall of sound guitars, superb vocals, brilliant solos, just pure, untainted rock'n'roll genius. The band which defined the '90s kick back with one of the greatest live albums ever. Not one bad song on the whole record, who could've doubted them? The new line-up cope brilliantly and add a dimension of speed and musical complexion of which Oasis never possessed before now. Jazzy keyboardist Zeb Jameson and extended instrumentals contribute to the experience. How I regret not rushing out to get to the concert. With an array of different musical pieces in making and a song-writing Liam, Oasis are definitley coming back-like it or not.I for one am going to keep the faith and it will be back. Highlights-Go Let It Out,Acquiesce,Rock 'n' Roll Star, every songs a gem.Buy it.Now.

I bought this album having been to the Bolton leg of the tour and wasn't surprised to find Wembley seems to have been just as good. Oasis just seem to be at home and at their best playing in the biggest stadiums. From Liam and Noel's teasing the crowd ('Hello Manchester') to the sheer brilliance of their performances of the songs, this is a must-have for any Oasis fans. If you weren't there, than here's what you missed, if you were then you can re-live the memories.
From the opening of .. in the Bushes to the classic Don't Look Back In Anger to the finale of Rock n' Roll Star, this is the sound of the best band in the world doing what they do best!
