"This is a clearly written short introduction to trading FX by a technical analyst who cut his teeth in foreign exchange trading." --Jeremy Prescott, SIGnet

Product Description

If you were to make a list of financial topics that have grabbed the interest of the wider public over recent years - apart from of course bankers bringing the global financial system to its knees with ever more imaginative ways to wrap up high risk loans - then spread betting and foreign exchange trading would surely be near the top. These have both been around for decades, but developments in both technology and financial markets in the past five to ten years are the reasons they have become such hot topics. This book starts by covering the basics of spread betting and explains why it has become such a viable alternative to trade a whole host of markets in recent years. Then the forex markets are explained - cutting through the jargon to help you understand how this works, what makes currency prices move second by second, 24 hours a day and how you can trade forex using spread betting. Finally, some simple trading strategies are examined - approaches that you can put into practise straightaway using spread betting, at a level of risk that suits your own particular circumstances. If you have considered trading forex then this book will help you avoid the most common pitfalls of this highly volatile but fascinating market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wall Street here I come!, 15 Feb 2010
This review is from: Spread Betting the Forex Markets: An expert guide to spread betting the foreign exchange markets (Paperback)
I have been trading shares on and off for a year or so and have always liked the idea of getting involved with forex but never really knew where to start. This book has turned out to be the perfect solution to that - I now feel much more comfortable about how these markets work, how to manage the risk and what sort of trading strategies to use.

I have bought lots of trading books in the past and they can be a little bit hit and miss. But David Jones book has the right amount of both theory and practical application to be really useful for spread betting forex and I think it is well worth a read - whether trading is all completely new to you or you have already been doing it for some time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Succinct, Clear, Applicable and Memorable, 15 Mar 2010
This review is from: Spread Betting the Forex Markets: An expert guide to spread betting the foreign exchange markets (Paperback)
I have read many books on this subject and have been trading profitably nearly every day since the beginning of this year. This book is written in a very clear way, using good examples to make the key points come alive for the reader. It is easy to read and to grasp the messages and I was able to use something that I learned straight away to good effect.

For me, the key benefits of this book are:
- the clear explanations of how the forex markets and spread betting work
- how to calculate entry/exit points together with an appropriate and profitable risk reward ratio
- understanding how intraday positions are rolled over and the inherent costs of a roll over which could affect the overall profitability of a trade if held too long.
- use simpler momentum indicators - I think I was using too many which made it hard to understand what they were telling me.

I recommend this book to anyone who has not traded forex before and anyone who has traded but is not happy with the results they are achieving. If the latter group of people approach this book with an open mind they will, I am sure, get insight into how they can improve their performance. If their minds are not open then that could be the real problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much all that you need to get started trading FOREX, 29 Mar 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Spread Betting the Forex Markets: An expert guide to spread betting the foreign exchange markets (Paperback)
Length:: 0:26 Mins

Just a quick blurb from me as to what I thought of the book which I'll summarise here;

Would definitely recommend to those without any prior knowledge of Forex or for those that have a casual interest at the moment but would like to know more and make more of it.

There's great information in there about position sizing and risk management, the best I've read actaully and I think this park of the book needs the most emphasis and it gets it from David.

The only negative in my opinion is that indicators like Stochastics and MACD were mentioned in name only and I was left wanting a bit more from the indicators section which seemed to only cover RSI.

In summary though, this book would make a great first read for any wannabe currency traders and should prevent you from the learning the hard way.
