Product Description

Product Description

This book brings together the author of "Why do you overeat" and "Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight", with a trained chef, both of whom are role models in healthy eating. The partnership has produced a fantastic selection of recipes that are nutritious, delicious and easy to cook. The recipes feature real food, real ingredients, no manufactured fats, minimal sugar (if any) - just health and taste - which is what the diet is all about.

About the Author

Zoe Harcombe is author of "Why do you overeat? When all you want is to be slim". She gives diet advice on Real Radio FM and BBC Radio Wales and writes regularly for newspapers and magazines. Having suffered from both anorexia and bulimia she has spent 20 years researching the causes of overeating. Zoe is a Cambridge University graduate. Rachel McGuinness is the founder of "The Life Spa" and "Absolutely Fabulous". After qualifying as a chef, she worked in France, Switzerland and Israel, for hotels and private residences. Rachel now runs her own fitness and lifestyle consultancy.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 9 Nov 2009
By Mr. Trevor Lott "Trevor L" (Costa Blanca, Spain) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Harcombe Diet - Stop Counting Calories and Start Losing Weight: Recipe Book (Paperback)
We thought the book was great although quite repetitive. In 10 days my wife lost 10 lbs and she is not particularly overweight, but needed to drop a dress-size. I am quite a big person and I also lost 10 lbs. We haven't been hungry at all which is the main criteria as far as we are concerned. We have tried not mixing protein and carbs previously but without the 5-day kick start which really works. I certainly rate the book.... but I do miss my glasses of wine at the moment as I live in a hot country!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars finally something that works!, 26 Mar 2010
By Mrs. E. Finney (NW England) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Harcombe Diet - Stop Counting Calories and Start Losing Weight: Recipe Book (Paperback)
This is the first time i've ever reviewed a book but the diet is so good i had to.
I've got both the diet book and the recipe book and have now been doing the diet for 10 weeks. I started at 13 stone 4 (i'm 5ft 7) and have now lost a stone and a half.
Like loads of other reviewers i've tried all sorts of other diets and mostly ended up losing a little and then putting a load back on when my will power ran out.
Phase 1 is hard, but i gave up alcohol and caffeine for a couple of weeks before i started and that seemed to really help with the headache issue - i've had really bad headaches doing previous 'detox' diets but didn't have that problem with phase 1.
During phase 2 (which i'm still on) i've managed to go out for dinner several times without putting a load back on. I did learn the hard way though that you can't drink rose wine with a fat meal- i didn't realise it was so sugary!
I feel so much better and my eating habits have totally changed - something i was sure wouldn't happen. I was hugely skeptical when i started the diet particularly about the idea that you could lose weight without doing any exercise. Anyway i don't do any regular exercise at the moment (something i now feel i have the energy to change) and have still managed to lose weight. i still can't quite believe it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Caused Acid buildup in Joints, 20 Mar 2010
By M. Masters (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I want to be fair to this diet because i believe it could work for some people.

The first thing most people will want to know is: Does it make you lose weight? And the answer is a definite Yes, for myself and my husband.

The main problem i had with the diet, is that it caused painful acid build up in my joints, despite the fact that i ate allot of veg and drank plenty of water. I am fairly sure that the diet caused acidosis, and so is not for me. I think that there are other people who would be ok on this diet, but i'm not one of them. I may well be one of those people who is meat intolerant.

As for my husband he had a huge healing crisis in the first 2 days. I mean he was really, really, sick. I believe the main problem was lack of caffeine combined with the detox of everything at once. I would suggest for people who are determined to try this diet to ween themselves of caffeine before starting the Phase one detox. He is not going to continue with the diet, because he didn't enjoy it as compared to other diets, but he is making lifestyle changes based on his experiences eg drinking less coffee, no processed foods, etc

What this diet and book did do in a positive sense, is highlight the foods i crave (wheat and sugar). It clarified how candida, food intolerance and hypoglycemia affect my life by causing these cravings. I think this is very important for myself and others to take on board. We are not weak willed when we give in, we are ill, and there is a cure. I think that this is a very important message and i commend the author for publishing this.

Although the diet was not healthy for 'me' i learnt allot, it allowed me to take control of my eating and i will be applying some of its principles in the future.

I do not regret buying this book, but i am moving on to try a PH diet.
