This book aims to give guidance and recipe ideas for those who might frequently be faced with cooking for themselves. There are some introductory chapters which outline what things you might need in the kitchen and some "tips for beginners". It's then broken down into chapters based on food type, such as soups and snacks, seafood, beef, lamb, pork, poultry, vegetables, etc, making it easy to find each recipe based on what you might fancy making. There are also some meal planners at the back which cover two weeks' worth of recipes for lunch, dinner and a dessert.

I was hoping for some inspirational ideas but really, this book offers a lot of basic recipes which most competent cooks would probably conceive themselves. Spaghetti and meatballs in this book is only different because it gives smaller quantities, whereas something like Lamb Chops with Shallots and Peas is more an assembly job than an elaborate dish. Some recipes give quantities for two servings, suggesting that the other can be eaten the following day or placed in the freezer, however these recipes aren't frequent.

As will always be the case when cooking for one, recipes use small quantities of items you have to buy in large packets. The recipe for Lamb Shank with Rosemary and Garlic uses two anchovy fillets, which would leave you with another 6 or 8 fillets left to do something with. Some of the desserts are similar, such as the Caramelised Pears with Mascarpone: two table spoons of Mascarpone would leave you with 2/3 of a pot to use up elsewhere, which isn't great for the singe cook.

At last - a cookery book for us singles that makes me want to start cooking again! It contains a great range of healthy and imaginative receipes and practical advice, served up in a humorous, no-nonsense style. I particularly like the suggestions for using extra portions in other ways to create a variety of dishes and the fact that there are no ingredient lists longer than the recipe itself! This book does what it says on the tin!

At last! An easy to follow and at the same time inspiring collection of creative recipes. Those of us who often cook for one will find the joy of cooking given a boost and re-discover that eating in a healthy manner can still be fun!

This is an excellent cookbook for those cooking for one. Importantly it includes variations which can be used to "use up" remaining ingredients - always a problem when shopping for one. Excellent, easy to follow lay out with bullet point instructions. Separate coloured border on each page lists ingredients required. Good mix of meat/fish/veggie recipes. Best book (for one)since Delia's One is Fun, and I have a large collection of cookbooks! Only drawbacks - it does not list levels of fat/saturated fat for the health conscious cook and there are no pictures!

This book was just what I needed. I am a widow in my 70's and having been looking for a book catering for the needs of ONE.
It is a pleasure to use and I have enjoyed the results.

I love this recipe book - it's filled with great recipes as well as meal plan suggestions that make it so much easier to plan through the week. Before I bought this I was wasting so much food and cooking really unimaginative dishes - I have so much more inspiration now.

Highly recommended.

This gives a lot of delicious recipes that I may not have even thought of for one but then gives ways of using the extra if it is better or make more and cheaper such as buying a full chicken to cook instead of portions, great book thanks

Got this out of the library and found so many recipes I wanted to try that I bought my own copy. Unlike other cookbooks I've seen for one person, this one suggests ingredients you might actually have in your cupboard or fridge, or at least be able to find easily in a shop without spending a small fortune. Have tried several of the recipes and really enjoyed them.
