Blown away...amazing!!!!, 15 April 2008
This review is from: You Can Be Thin: The Ultimate Programme to End Dieting... Forever (Paperback)
Firstly I have to say, that I have only had the book a week and I was originally going to review it after a month or so to see how I got on, but instead, I'll review it now and add an update in the future. Secondly I have to say, I was sceptical when I started to read this, I am not someone who falls for any speech given to me, I am very guarded and at times I can be closed minded, I didn't think this book would work, but I decided to give it a go, so this review is coming from someone who is not easily led and I certainly don't normally go for positive thinking all the time, personal life has shown me that doesn't work...anyway...on with the review.
I ordered this book with two others and it was by pure chance that I read this one first, and I am so glad I did. (the others are untouched now). As soon as I read the first page, it was like I realised there was a very real and almost scary possiblity that my destructive relationship with food was going to come to an end for the first time in 11 years.
Every word that Marisa says makes perfect sense and I even found myself bawling when she stated that I have basically been abusing my body for years with the rubbish I've been eating. Which is right, I was married to a man who made me feel euphoric for a few minutes, and in the gutter the next. I was depressed, sad, hated myself and I was fat. I got rid of him, so why have I accepted the same emotional turmoil from food all these years??? The answer is right here in this book. I really feel that Marisa has managed to make sense of an age old problem that we face everyday and she has given a solution that makes perfect sense and is completely 'do-able'. What I like even more is that she isn't some size 0 (never had so much as one fat cell) celebrity Doctor who is spouting what she 'believes' is right, she has been where we all are.
She talks about certain foods and how they should ideally be cut out from your diet if possible, but she doesn't make you feel that if you don't you will fail. This book is all about thinking about what you are doing, and making choices. Sounds like american psychobabble rubbish right? Well it's not. I can't possibly begin to explain how this book has changed things for me, even at this early stage, so you will just have to read it for yourself.
If you have struggled for years to overcome the rush that food provides, only to feel guilty and deflated after, read this book. If you have ever started a diet with all the best intentions only to have piled it back on again and more, then read this book. This is not a book with menus in, it does not instruct you what to eat on certain days, this is not to turn you into a robot that must follow Marisas menu or you will fail, this is about you dealing with the issues you have with food, turning them on there head and being in control of you having a great life. Free from addiction to junk food. Free from the guilt and self loathing after the daily blowout of awful foods. Free from the obsessive thoughts of food on your mind constantly. Free to take it or leave it. Free to be who and what you want to be. It doesn't get any better than that.
This book will not be a miracle cure if you don't read it and believe it, it won't make you think and change your ways if you have closed your mind and you believe that you have no trouble with food. Pointless argument, or else, why would you be buying the book.
This for me is the book of the millenium. Already I feel better, I'm not bloated and even better, I turned down pizza the other day without even thinking. I am even going to one of her seminars and I am so excited at the bright future I can see because of this book.
Please read it, you'll be so glad you did.
P.S. The hypnosis CD is fantastic, don't know how it works, it just does.
Ok, I'll shut up now.
