I bought this for my Year 8 son as his school doesn't use textbooks and he was struggling to do his homework without a text to refer to. It is a good, thorough guide which (so far) seems to cover everything he does at school. It has been very useful for him to refer back to when completing homework. I don't imagine it would be much use if you were starting from scatch, as you need to have knowledge of the subject first, but it invaluable as a revision text. Why don't schools use textbooks anymore???

The whole point of having a Revision Guide is to REVISE from it-and that's something that CGP haven't quite got the hang of.
Although the book is of great length, and covers eleven different units, it is often very brief, and misses out most of the topics that are covered during KS3.
For example, not one bit of information on Hydrographs can be found in the, "River," section, and Shopping, Crime and Tourism, three units that clearly appear on the KS3 Curriculum, have been missed out.
In addition, to this, despite the Guide being aimed at Children in KS3 (Eleven-Fourteen Year-Olds) the book uses formal language that is often difficult to understand. And, unlike other CGP Guides, isn't written in the chatty, humorous style that buyers are used to. Therefore, it is often difficult to understand, and the information is difficult to retain.
Some of the answers to the, "Practice Questions," are missing, also.
However, for the few, essential topics that the guide DOES cover, they are all covered in exceptional detail, and make good, informative reading.
Unfortunately, that factor alone is just not enough to earn this book 5 Stars.
3 should be rewarded, at most.
