Having looked through a number of guide books in bookshops I went for this one as it seemed the most comprehensive for what I wanted. It didn't disappoint! If you're hitting 'the islands' to party then don't bother getting this. If you want more in-depth, cultural and historical information give this some serious consideration. Although it didn't cover everything I wanted, it definately ticked almost all the boxes. It does tend to go for the 'touristy' restaurants/shops rather than the true blue Greek establishments. If you're a worldly wise traveller who goes off the beaten track to find the 'little gems' don't rely on this book, however, this is still worth serious consideration for good solid information that will not see you wrong! This is the third travel book in the series I have purchased and always check the series out before going elsewhere.

We spent a week sailing in the Greek Islands - there was no fixed itinerary for this trip, so having something on all the islands in one book was great. People on the trip with us also had Lonely Planets, Rough Guides and Frommers equivalents ... this book had the most pictures, so was used by the group to have an overview of the location ... anyone wanting more detail on the history, towns and facilities turned to the other guides.

I was looking for a book that covered Kefalonia and so ordered this one. However, the sections for each island are too small to be of much use. ok if you just want a general idea.

I found this guide book a bit lacking. There are some inconsistencies between the summary table at the beginning and some of the text later in the book.
Also book is focuses quite heavily on architecture, with less information about where to find activities / sports / nightlife. Not at all aimed at a budget traveller with listings of accommodation.

The main reason I disliked this eyewitness guide over the rest is because it failed to inform me that "the best beach in the world" (according to this guide) is actually a nudist beach and has been for years. Thanks for that DK..

Otherwise it was very useful!

Have bought several DK guides in the last few years & had no hesiation in ordering this one when planning a last minute trip to the Greek islands.
Initially I was slightly disappointed when the book arrived as it did not contain as much detail as I had expected. However, there are so many Greek islands , it would be difficult to cover everything in one travel sized guide.
Found that this was detailed enough to help us choose which island & resort to visit plus the "must see" sights.
Happily both the island (Santorini)& beach area we stayed at more than met our expectations .
Would recommend this guide for providing a good overview on each island & with this information & a search on Trip Advisor you can certainly plan a great holiday.
This is also an attractive guide & I will enjoy looking through it again & hopefully planning another trip before too long.

An excellent companion to the Lonely Planet book of Greek Islands which gives valuable access information. This one concentrates more on the tourist value of each island, the text and maps are much easier to read being printed to a better standard. Recommended to Grecophiles. John S

We do have a few of the Eyewitness Travel Guides and I must say that I am really like them all.

We went to the Greek Island June/July 2011 (just back actually!!) and that guide was great help. We changed our plans on the last minute and decided to explore more islands. Without that guide it would have been hard to make our choice.

There is a very useful chart at the begining of the guide summarising all the island and their best interests. They have also included a few pages on Athens.
