This is a very good read for students particularly those studying at AS or A2 level. It provides a good all round context and some detail into main events of the movement.
However, it does not section well so it can be hard to find what you are looking for when just wanting a quick reference and there are certainly better books available if you are looking for a bible on this subject.
The book is written in clear uncomplicated English and is the perfect background read for anyone studying at A-level or wanting a VERY BASIC understanding at first year degreee level.

I brought this book for my final year studying for a BAHons in history as I was struggling with my specail subject. This book gives a good brief overview of the civil rights movement, but doesnt cover the topic in great detail.

It doesnt mention certain figures in detail, nor does it detail certain events (such as the Meredith March and Carmichaels black power speech).

Don't get me wrong, this is a good book, and it has helped me alot--but it is an overview. I would recommened it to anyone who wishes to grasp the civil rights movement before looking at the movement in great detail.
