5.0 out of 5 stars An important new voice, 4 Jan 2008
By A reader (London) - See all my reviews
Prose that fizzes, sings, aches and exhilarates. Full of uncomfortable, challenging perspectives this collection is the opposite of relaxing but in story after story the succulent, voluptuous language keeps you hooked. Crammed with stories, imagination and visions. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Compelling Collection, 3 Feb 2008
By Mary McCluskey (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A compelling debut collection with a surprise on every page. Written in lyrical language with startling imagery the stories are wide ranging in both location and emotional terrain. Many of them - Bone on Bone and The Lightest Blue for example - will appeal to everyone but be prepared for the wild cards throughout the collection. Mad Angels is a shocking, haunting story that stays with the reader long after the book is closed.

Jai Clare's love of language, her joyful exploration of what language can do, is clear throughout this work. I'm forward to seeing what she does next.
