Product Description

Product Description

Austin Healy is one of English rugby's best-known characters. His extraordinary career has seen him with 50 England caps, star on two British Lions tours and play a leading role in England's most successful club ever - Leicester Tigers. He's rightly regarded as perhaps the most versatile and skilful English player ever and has won fans the world over. But his outspoken nature means he's courted controversy along the way. In "Me and My Mouth", he lays bare the backstage wrangling that bedevilled England's World Cup winners and wrecked those Lions tours - and lifts the lid on the hilarious behind-the-scenes escapades fans rarely get to hear about. Now with a new career as a BBC TV presenter ahead of him, Austin's sure to stay in the public eye...and this book will ensure he keeps on ruffling feathers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sport Book of the Year - Fantastic, 25 Jan 2007
By susie (Hertfordshire) - See all my reviews
What a great read!
Witty, informative, revealing and entertaining - everything a good autobiography ought to be. This is NOT a dull account of the games he has played.
Austin is a larger-than-life character and officionados might think: What is there that Austin can say that we don't already know? The answer is: PLENTY.
He is not afraid to talk about his fall-outs with coaches, particularly Andy Robinson and Pat Howard, his mistakes and his fears for the future.
More than anything though he makes you think that, aside from all the hours training, being an England rugby player is a great laugh.

If you want to:
* learn the rules of Nadger Ball and beer Jenga,
* find out why Clive Woodward was called at 4am about a £[...] bill run up on his credit card at an Italian lap dancing bar
* understand why Austin spent cosy evenings in a log cabin with another England player wearing nothing but tights
* discover how inflatable beer bottles saved Austin from being punched by one very angry hooker

5.0 out of 5 stars AT long last a brilliant sports'autobiogrpahy, 16 Jan 2007

i don't normally read sports autobiographies because, let's be frank, they're usually rather anodyne. that's not a word you can use to describe austin healey's autobiography. like the man himself, 'men and my mouth' is controversial, opinionated, revealing, outspoken and funny. austin could certainly play rugby and now he proves he's every bit as good with a pen in his hand as a ball. he comes across as a boozing, fighting, mickey-taking, prank-playing lunatic... and there's some great stuff behind the scenes with England. i even found myself moved by the stuff about the world cup. this book is a definite must-buy for anyone who likes rugby - it is NOT just a book for leicester fans. absolutely brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent autobiography, 30 Jan 2007
By reb (uk) - See all my reviews
An excellent autobiography - certainly one of the best, if not the best, rugby autobiography that I can recall. Healey's honest, amusing and often ironic self assessment of himself during his rugby career is an enjoyable and interesting read. One to recommend to all sports fans alike.
