This is a very well written account of the crimes of Leonard Lake & Charles "Chitat" Ng ,which they called Operation Miranda ! The book is well researched and gives a very good background of not only Lake & Ng but also of the victims and it leads you nicely to how the killers and victims crossed paths. On top of the vivid details there are various pictures in the book of most of the main players in this story& the bunker and property in Wilseyville , unfortunately there is no picture of Claralyn "Cricket" Balasz ! Claralyn was Lakes second wife and the book accurately charts their relationship and marriage as well as Leonard Lakes first marriage. Claralyn is an interesting lady in this story and by the end of the book you will have quite an impression of her !

I should warn that there are three crime scene pictures showing part of the bodies that were dug up from the property and readers of a nervous disposition should not look at those pictures before dinner ! The book also tracks the legal hooha that Charles Ng created and follows his trial to the very costly end it resulted in. Its definitely recommended reading ....

Right, read this in a couple of days...more on that later! What a tale, sick and twisted american weirdo's strike again. This is a real account of how the American Dream often leads to an American Nightmare! Details are not for the weak hearted and it's a pretty full account- my only dissapointment with the whole thing is that it's written in a kind of back and forth style. This can be a bit annoying as I just wanted an account of what happened- in parts this reads like a book of fiction complete with mini cliff hangers....oh and the end...GetOnWithIt! Far too much detail involved in the court case. It is a tricky on-going case, but I don't need to know who said what and who had what for dinner! Tell me the facts and move on! I skipped about 20 pages in the end...
All in all a good buy for under a fiver- careful who you order from tho, mine took almost a month to arrive!

This is about Leonard Lake and Charles Ng and how they captured, enslaved, tortured, humiliated, in some cases raped, and eventually killed their victims. This is about a supposed bond between two people that when the chips were down happily betrayed each other.

I sometimes got the feeling that Lasseter has some sort of military background because we are often reminded that Lake and Ng were both in the US Marines history and their lack of ethics. Although this may be due to one of the jurors also formerly served in the Marines.

The book also follows the court case whereby Ng's defence team were making great progress only to be frustrated by Ng's uncooperative nature(he kept trying to fire them - a ploy up until then worked to delay the court case itself)

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this case

Although I loved the book and felt many emotions, I felt I took a long time to get into it,
I am revering to the fact I read nearly 300 pages before the book really began For real.
It was due to all the backgrounds of victims which I know was vital for story but I just couldn't get into that.
But if I was faced with buying The book even knowing this I certainly would.
What human beings are capable off is surely horrific. I cried I was angry I was shocked, after reading the end I fell silent for a while with my thoughts, profound thoughts.
