2.0 out of 5 stars waste of money, 21 Feb 2008
This review is from: Commodities Rising: The Reality Behind the Hype and How to Really Profit in the Commodities Market (Hardcover)
I've read Jim Rogers, which contains a wealth of information, tightly reasoned analysis, and some thoughts as to which way various commodities will go. Christian keeps whatever cards he had close to his chest. The introduction of the book contains a sickeningly self-congratulatory piece about his company and how marvellous it and he is. Like a typical CV these days! He has numerous snipes at Rogers without naming him. He dismisses Rogers' thesis about the role of the rise of China in the commodities bull market, without noticing that China has indubitably had a huge impact. He also spends a great deal of time fruitlessly attacking various wacko conspiracy theories which frankly no serious person wants to even think about.

One doesn't want to be told in a sheep-like fashion to do. Nor does one want to shell out a lot of money for an advert for someone else's company.

5.0 out of 5 stars The facts about commodities from cotton to gold, 25 Jan 2008

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Commodities Rising: The Reality Behind the Hype and How to Really Profit in the Commodities Market (Hardcover)
Commodities markets are awash in misinformation and disinformation. Huge price swings can inflict painful losses. Should you flee to the investment standards of stocks and bonds? That might be your first instinct, but it could deprive you of strong returns, says commodities expert Jeffrey M. Christian in this smart, compelling study. He offers no get-rich-quick secrets. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of sound analysis and solid decision-making. Christian nicely cuts through the hype to give a clear-eyed view of China's effect on commodities prices. His writing is a bit stiff at times, and but he avoids too much jargon and moves at a good pace in this informative introduction to a complex field. getAbstract recommends it to investors seeking savvy insights and for their portfolios.
