I am currently studying AS Level Human Biology and this is the text that has been selected for the course, but soon enough our very experienced lecturers have found many mistakes in this text to the point that they have written to the authors/editors of the text pointing out the mistakes that they have found so far and still continue to find as we progress through the course. The mistakes are not the only problem, the chapters are badly organised and do not follow the way the OCR specification is laid out. Stay well clear and look for something else!!!

This book is OK. It's set up so that each topic is explained over a 2 page spread. Unfortunately, this doesn't allow enough space to add the details that I consider are necessary for an A'level course. I'm finding that I'm having to do a lot of my own research to explain what the book means. This takes time away from revision and coursework. I've also discovered a few errors and inconsistencies in the book as well, which can be quite confusing at times. I hope it doesn't impact on my grade...

My Human Biology teacher recommended this textbook as the class textbook to learn from but I think it would be more suitable for revision. It is very well laid out and has good summaries and questions to help prepare for the exam. I just feel that it is fine if supplemented with further reading but maybe there are better textbooks to enable a more in-depth study into the area. Nevertheless, I did get a B, so it didn't disadvantage me too much.

I've found this book helpful when studying for my AS level. You do need to learn everything in it to get a decent grade which is difficult as there is a lot of it! So far in my course though it has been a great help. It's quite easy to read and everything is well explained with diagrams and pictures. The end of unit questions are also helpful to sum up your knowledge and prepare you for the exam.

As said in the title - it's ok. As this is my only book to revise with however, the mistakes are extremely noticeable throughout, for example there are typos, punctuation mistakes and answers to the practice questions which don't actually match to the questions! However it does seem to contain all information needed in the exam, so I can't be too annoyed with it :P

For a text book it is not bad. There are however a few mistakes and the information on some pages waffle on and do not give you the specific information that you need. I would recommend it with the Revision guide as they complement each other by filling in the pieces each other have missed.

This was the only book I needed to get an A in my AS and A2. Whoever proof-read the diagrams evidently didn't understand biology though, so there were occasional discrepancies and absurdities that I had to figure out. The main text was spot-on.

Brilliant detailed book, full of all the modules and area's needed for studies. The pages are great with key words and mini exam questions at the end of every module.
